Introduction to MeM at Purdue
MeM at Purdue University is open to candidates from any engineering discipline who are interested in developing business skills while further developing technical and engineering skills. It offers a 21-month program that includes a 12-month Co-Op assignment or internship, as well as an accelerated 12-month program. Their programs are attractive to engineers who want a master’s degree but prefer an alternative to a traditional master’s in engineering or an MBA.
This interdisciplinary Master of Science in Engineering (MSE) degree is specifically designed for recent college graduates preparing for a career in industry. Industry research shows that a third of all engineers are promoted to management positions before having the proper management skills, which puts our grads in high demand because they are prepared with the skills and experience companies need.
A key component of our Engineering Management program is our blend of business and engineering courses, providing an emphasis ionn systems engineering and business management. In addition to deepening students’ engineering skills, we provide students with opportunities to learn, perform, and network in a business environment.

The minimum requirements into any of our Engineering Management programs are:
- ABET accredited Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering*
- GPA of 3.0 or higher

Scholarships Available : MeM at Purdue
Purdue University is a member university of the GEM Consortium. As such, students are eligible to join Purdue’s MEM with a GEM Fellowship. GEM Fellowships are offered for graduating seniors who plan to enter graduate school in science or engineering fields. Applicants need to be U.S. citizens or permanent U.S. residents. Candidates should be members of one of the following underrepresented groups: American Indian/Native, African American/Black, Hispanic American/Latino/a.
Graduate students in STEM (Science. Technology. Engineering. Mathematics.) disciplines can receive a full scholarship and commit to working with the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) upon degree completion. Eligible awardees need to be a citizen of the U.S., Australia, Canada, New Zealand, or United Kingdom at time of application.
Specializations & Electives Offered
The industry demand for engineers equipped with business backgrounds is growing. Purdue offers 1-year and 2-year concentrations in Engineering Management.
The structure of the MEM curriculum is very flexible within the requirements which are as follows:
- 18 credit hours of engineering coursework, 9 credits from Systems Engineering and 9 credit hours from a single engineering discipline (depth requirement). The same courses may be used to meet both. Once you meet the systems and depth requirements, you may take any graduate level engineering courses for your remaining engineering credits.
- 9 credit hours of management coursework selected from Business Analytics, Accounting, Marketing for Managers, Strategic Management and Intro to Operations Management.
- 3 credit hours of elective coursework: chosen from engineering, management, or another STEM discipline.

Are only engineering undergraduates accepted?
While the majority of our students have undergraduate engineering degrees, we do accept students with STEM-related backgrounds including, but not limited to, Computer Science, Physics, and Mathematics.

What will appear on my transcript?
The major is “Engineering Management” with a concentration in one of the following areas depending on your program:
i. Engineering Management and Professional Practice (2-year)
ii. Engineering Management (1-year accelerated)
Are internships considered as work expereince?
You can enter all types of work experience in the Education and Experience section as well as detailing these experiences on your CV (Resumé).
Is the MeM Offered Exclusuvely as a residential ,on-campus program?
Yes. The program is intended as a full-time, on-campus, residential program at Purdue University’s flagship campus in West Lafayette, Indiana. Students may complete one or two courses online if they choose, usually during semesters while completing an industry Co-Op experience.
Who is the GRE requirement waived for ?
The GRE requirement is waived for Purdue students and alumni. The GRE is also optional for students and graduates of U.S. institutions.
