Ivey Business School Master in Management

Within approximately two to three weeks of receiving all application components and completing the online video essays, a candidate may receive an invitation to interview.

Ivey conducts interviews by invitation only and all admitted candidates are interviewed at least once. Interviews will be conducted either in-person at Ivey or online via Zoom. Chosen candidates receive further details regarding expectations and preparation tips within the interview invitations.

MiM Interview Experience-1

Before I delve into the insights gained from my interview at Ivey Business School, it’s crucial to highlight the significance of maintaining a relaxed atmosphere during the interview process. This realization stems from my past encounters with less successful interviews, emphasizing the value of preparing with relevant work-related anecdotes.

Here’s an overview of the interview:

  1. Can you introduce yourself?
  2. What motivated you to pursue an MiM degree immediately after completing your undergraduate degree? Why Ivey Business School?
  3. You have a BJMC background, but you are interested in business. Can you explain what prompted this transition?
  4. Have you ever been an agent of change? If so, what did you do and what was the impact of your actions?
  5. What challenges have you faced while working on a team project? What valuable lessons have you learned from those experiences?
  6. What are your strengths and weaknesses?
  7. How have you handled cross-functional projects, especially when team members had competing priorities? What strategies have you used to align everyone’s efforts and prioritize your work?

During the interview, I highlighted my strengths as being analytical, innovative, and helpful to others. This led to a follow-up question: Can you walk me through your thought process when working on a case study and developing creative solutions?

Advice to other applicants:

When preparing for your interview, focus on demonstrating your potential to contribute to the program and your ability to adapt to your peers and excel in a case-based learning environment. 

Be prepared to talk about your skills, experience, and goals, and how you will fit into the Ivey Business School community. 

Be able to articulate why you are passionate about business and why Ivey Business School is the right program for you. And be able to share examples of how you have worked successfully with others in the past.

Specifically, you should be prepared to discuss your interest in Ivey’s case-based learning approach and how you plan to succeed in this environment. 

You should also be able to talk about your leadership potential and how you plan to contribute to the Ivey community.

MiM Interview Experience-2

I had the pleasure of being interviewed for the MiM program at Ivey Business School by a senior member of the admissions committee. The interviewer was very warm and welcoming, which put me at ease and made the interview enjoyable.

Here’s how the interview progressed:

  1. It commenced with a laid-back prompt: “Tell me about your background.”
  2. We engaged in a discussion about the challenges I encountered in my work experiences.
  3. The interviewer showed interest in my specific interests within the field of management.
  4. Questions arose regarding any international experiences I had acquired.
  5. An inquiry was made regarding my motivation for considering Ivey Business School.
  6. The interviewer explored potential challenges I might face in settling in Europe.
  7. I had the opportunity to articulate what unique contributions I could bring to the MiM class.
  8. To lighten the mood, we delved into how I unwind and enjoy myself outside of academics.
  9. I was prompted to reflect on aspects where I felt a need for improvement.
  10. The conversation concluded with a friendly discussion about the school, featuring valuable career advice and a generous offer to connect me with alumni. The overall exchange was enriching and highlighted the supportive atmosphere at Ivey.

MiM Interview Experience-3

I concluded my interview with the head of the admissions committee. The interaction was quite conversational and informal. Here are a few questions that stood out in my memory:

  1. What motivated you to pursue a MiM, why did you choose IBS, and why is this the right time for you?
  2. You mentioned that you’ve a few months of relevant professional experience. Could you tell me a little about that; What did you learn, how did you contribute to the organization, etc.
  3. Share insights into your strengths, weaknesses, and the lessons you’ve derived from them.
  4. Explain your approach to conflict management and how you handle failures, including the mechanisms you employ and the lessons learned.
  5. Discuss the cultural insights you’ve gained from interacting with other cultures.

In terms of preparation, I would recommend thoroughly reviewing your CV, essays, and reflecting on your strengths and weaknesses.

  1. How do your outside interests align with Ivey’s values of integrity, excellence, community, and diversity?
  2. How will your contributions to the Ivey community enrich the program for you and your peers?
  3. What specific roles and industries are you interested in after graduation?
  4. What are your unique strengths and talents that you bring to a team?
  5. How have you used these strengths to contribute to the success of your teams in the past?
  6. How will you use these strengths to contribute to the Ivey community?
  7. Where do you see yourself in your career 7-10 years from now?
  8. How have you handled situations in the past where a teammate was not contributing their fair share?
  9. What strategies would you use to motivate and support a teammate who is struggling?
  10. What is your proudest professional or personal accomplishment?
  11. What skills and knowledge did you use to achieve this accomplishment?
  12. Is there anything else you would like the admissions committee to know about you?
  13. This is your opportunity to highlight any additional information that you believe would help make a decision about your application.

MiM Interview Experience-5

  1. In the face of pressure or challenging circumstances, what is your typical response?
  2. Share an instance where you had to adapt to significant change or unexpected situations.
  3. During your non-work or study hours, what hobbies or pastimes bring you joy?
  4. What steps do you take to evolve into an improved version of yourself?
  5. How are your life decisions influenced by your moral standards or beliefs?
  6. In your moments of relaxation or rest outside work or study, what is your preferred method?
  7. Provide an analysis of a work of art, a movie, or a book that left a profound impact on you and explain why.
  8. Describe a situation where you assumed a leadership role and outline your approach to managing it.
