The University of Oxford: Said interviews for the MSc in Financial Economics program is usually conducted by a member of the admissions committee. The interview will be in a conversational tone and highly personalized based on your application. The interviewer will try to understand your strengths and weaknesses along with your compatibly to the program. Interviews can be conducted both in-person or online depending on the availability of the student. An online interview will not affect your application negatively. The interview generally lasts 30-45mins.

Questions:
(1) Why Finance? Why now?
(2) Why Oxford? Have you visited Oxford?
(3) Tell me about a time when you faced an obstacle in your career.

(5) Any questions about the program or Oxford?
The interviewer had thoroughly read my resume and application. Felt more like a conversation than an interview. I expected curveball questions, but a very straightforward process. Nothing that surprised me.

My interview is with an admission rep via Skype
Total time is 1 hour, has 2 parts: 40 minutes for questions about me, and 15 minutes for me to ask questions.
Questions are composed of 4 areas:
- Standard questions: why Finance, why Oxford
- My academic profile: if I used any GMAT training program, what my GPA is
- My work experience: if I have led a team, describe a time I have to convince people of my idea, describe a time I resolve conflict in a team (and what I would do differently if it happened again), if I have worked in different countries.
- My career aspiration: what I intend to do after completing the course. Then I was asked some more questions like why I am suitable for this role.
Questions for Oxford: here I asked a couple of questions about the career center, Consulting Career Workshop (Oxford’s new initiative).
In summary, it was a fairly alright interview, however, I’ve received the result and it was a Ding! Not sure why, but I expect it may be something to do with yield protection (I was asked if I’ve applied elsewhere, and which stage I was up to, I said LBS and up to the interview stage).

An admissions officer conducted my interview for the Oxford MSc in Finance program through Skype. A well-structured series of questions that probed into many facets of my profile were asked throughout the approximately 40-minute interview.
The following topics were covered in the interview:
1. Motivation and Objectives: What made you want to study finance at the Master’s level at Oxford?
– How do you see this program fitting into your long-term professional objectives?
2. Academic Preparation: Before submitting your application to the program, did you complete any specific courses or get any certificates in finance?
How well-prepared are you for the demands of the MSc in Finance program given your academic background?
3. Professional Experience: Give an example of a task or project where you used your excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
– Have you had the chance to work in multidisciplinary teams? How did you overcome any obstacles that came up?
4. Global Experience: Have you taken advantage of any educational or professional chances abroad?
– How do you believe your exposure to different cultures will enhance your learning process for the MSc in Finance program?
5. Involvement in the Oxford Community: What specific ways do you envision yourself enhancing Oxford’s thriving academic and social communities?
– Do you have a list of specific Oxford clubs or extracurricular activities that you’re interested in?
6. I have the following questions for Oxford: Could you provide us more information on the research possibilities at Oxford’s finance department?
– How does the curriculum assist students in creating solid business relationships and obtaining internships?
The interviewer was attentive and involved the entire time, actively hearing my comments, and asking follow-up questions as necessary. The interview gave me the chance to have a meaningful dialogue in which I could demonstrate my love of finance and my compatibility with the Oxford MSc in Finance program.

An admissions officer conducted a virtual interview with me for the Oxford MSc in Finance program. The purpose of the 45-minute interview was to determine whether I was a good fit for the program.
I was asked to give a summary of my educational and professional history during the interview. I highlighted how my job experience and academic accomplishments have developed my interest in finance and my drive to pursue a Master’s degree at Oxford as I provided specifics about both. The admissions representative also asked me why I especially choose the Oxford MSc in Finance program and how I feel it fits with my long-term professional objectives. I talked about my interest in Oxford’s illustrious history in finance education and the program’s extensive curriculum, which I think will provide me the information and abilities I need to succeed in the financial profession. The interviewer not only evaluated my history and motivation but also my academic readiness. They enquired about my GPA and asked if I had used any GMAT prep courses. I discussed in detail how I prepared for the GMAT and emphasized my excellent academic standing throughout my undergraduate degrees. The interviewer also inquired about my job history, paying special attention to team dynamics and leadership. They questioned me about occasions in which I had led a team, persuaded people of my viewpoints, and settled disputes within a team. I gave concrete anecdotes from my work background to illustrate my leadership qualities, persuasive communication talents, and capacity for overcoming obstacles in teams. The interviewer also gave me the chance to ask questions about Oxford and the course. I used the chance to ask about the career center’s assistance and to show interest in Oxford’s new Consulting Career Workshop program. But despite my efforts and a successful interview, the program sent me a letter of rejection. Although I am unsure of the precise reasons for the decision, I think they may have something to do with the competitiveness and the program’s restricted number of openings. Even though I was disappointed to receive a rejection, I am thankful for the chance to have interviewed with Oxford and the worthwhile experience obtained during the application process. I’ll keep working for my academic and professional objectives in the subject of finance while looking into any other options or courses of study that could better suit my aims.
