UCLA Anderson MIF Interviews
UCLA Anderson MIF interviews are generally conducted by the admissions committee or current students on-campus or via Skype. During the interview, the admissions committee member is actively trying to gauge how solid your motivations for wanting to pursue a MIF are, how interested you seem in the UCLA program, and if you fit well with the program’s core values. Interviewers often ask many standard MIF interview questions, as well as questions designed to gauge your self-awareness and entrepreneurial mindset. You can also expect numerous follow-up questions. The UCLA interview is blind, meaning the interviewer will only have access to your CV. The interview process is for 30 minutes.

“I had a Skype interview with a second-year student Lance on 14th Feb’20 and it lasted for about 25 mins. The interview was really conversational and I had a great time talking to him.
The questions that I was asked were on the lines of:
- Tell me something about yourself.
- Why do you want to do a Master in finance? Why now?
- How does being at Anderson help you achieve your goals?
- Which non-professional clubs are you interested in joining?
- Describe your experience working in a team.
- How did you first gain an interest in Finance?
- Describe your community service experience. (since it was listed on my resume)
- Do you have any questions for me?

UCLA Anderson MIF Interview Questions – 2
My interviewer was a second-year student, and right at the start, he told me that this was going to be a friendly conversation more than an interview and that he will ask a basic set of questions. He said he would take 15-20 minutes to ask his set of questions and then let me ask any questions I may have (unfortunately, we started a few minutes late because of some technical snag).
Questions:
- Walk me through your resume
- Why Finance and why now?
- What if your intended post-MIF plan doesn’t work out?
- Why Anderson?
- How will you contribute to the Anderson community?
And that’s about it!
After this, we spoke for about 10 minutes, and I asked him about his motivation to pursue a master’s in finance, his experience at Anderson, and his life in LA. It was quite a free-flowing conversation, and it helped that he had a similar professional background and goals as me. We spoke for about 30 minutes in total.
The interviewer was warm and friendly, and he was diligently taking notes as I responded to his questions. I was surprised by how brief the interview was, and the fact that there were no behavioral questions, but overall, it was a pleasant experience!

UCLA Anderson Interview Questions – 3
I had my interview with a second-year student. She started by introducing herself. The interview lasted for 38 minutes. A very conversational interview had the below questions.
- Walk me through your resume?
- Why business school? (Stated career goals first)
- How would you contribute to Anderson?
- TMA when you worked with a diverse team?
- TMA when you pitched a new idea and convinced your team?
- What is your leadership style?
- Which clubs would you take part in?
She took notes while talking, and shared her experiences at Anderson. Overall, it was a pleasant experience. Good luck everyone.
