Introduction to EBM at Warwick

 MSc in Engineering Business Management is designed for graduates who want to become managers or leaders of technology-based organisations. It is particularly suited to students with a technical background, who are looking to understand and develop management expertise.

The course delivers a broad education in engineering management and business, and will equip you with the analytical tools and techniques to improve internal and external operations; as well as an understanding of the processes and technologies used by engineering businesses.

During the course of the year, you will develop skills in the research, analysis, and evaluation of complex business problems, and gain a methodical approach to problem solving and decision making.

You will learn about the processes and technologies used by engineering businesses, and will develop an understanding of the functional relations between business divisions that can optimise efficiency and competitiveness.

Engineering Management focuses on the key value adding activities of: market, product and process development; operations, logistics and supply chain management; and core and emerging technology, as well as investigating how to achieve sustainability throughout the produce life-cycle.

Eligibility Criteria for EBM at Warwick

  • In order to meet our academic entry requirement, you should have obtained the minimum of a UK 2:1 undergraduate degree (or equivalent).
  • Candidates with a UK 2:2 (or equivalent) may be accepted upon demonstration of relevant professional experience.
  • EBM is designed for graduates who want become managers or leaders of technology-based organisations. It is particularly suited to students with an engineering, scientific or other technical background, who are looking to understand and develop management expertise. It is also appropriate for students who have a business or even a social science background and are looking to move into an engineering related sector.
  • English language
    If you are a non-native English speaker, we need to confirm that your English language competency is sufficiently good for you to get the most out of your Master’s study. We therefore require you to take a SELT (Secure English Language Test) and submit your results as one of your academic requirements.
  • Whilst we encourage you to take your English test as early as possible, you can upload your results later in the application cycle. You do not need to delay your application until you’ve taken an English test.
  • If you are taking an IELTS test, we require a score of 6.5 (with no less than 6.0 in any one component). Please view our web page here for a full list of accepted tests, together with the grades required.

  • A completed application form and £60 application fee.
  • Personal Statement which can be included in the online application.
  • A scan of your transcript (marksheet). If you are still studying, please send us your transcripts to date. NB: if you are made an offer, we will then require you to upload your online degree transcripts and certificate in order to clear your conditions.
  • English language test result (if applicable) – this can be submitted after you have an offer.
  • One reference. If you completed studies less than 2 years ago, this should be an academic reference. If you graduated more than 2 years ago, we will require a professional reference. We contact your referee directly, so please include their valid professional email address on your application form.
  • Candidates with professional experience should include their CV with their application.

Your choice will depend on your specific interest and focus, and to some extend on the way you would prefer to be assessed. You are eligible to apply if you have earned a Bachelor of Science in a similar science discipline, but you may be at a disadvantage compared to engineering majors who have applied. Please thoroughly review the requirements of the program in the MSME Graduate Handbook to help you decide if you are prepared for our program.

 Yes. Students with a BS degree are eligible to apply to the PhD program.
