1. Describe the biggest commitment you have ever made. Why is this commitment meaningful to you and what actions have you taken to support it? (500 words)

The most significant commitment I have made is to leverage technology for societal benefit. This commitment has been the cornerstone of my academic and professional journey, driving my passion for innovation and my dedication to making a meaningful impact.

During my time at IIT Kharagpur, this commitment took shape through various projects and internships. A notable example is my internship at JP Morgan Chase, where I developed a Java-based solution for processing and converting financial data. This project not only honed my technical skills but also provided me with a deep understanding of the financial domain. My dedication and excellence in this role were recognized with a pre-placement offer, validating my commitment.

My leadership role as a Steering Committee Member for Kshitij, IIT Kharagpur’s annual techno-management fest, further exemplified this commitment. Leading the transition to the first-ever virtual edition of the fest during the COVID-19 crisis required meticulous planning, leadership, and resilience. Managing a budget of INR 14.5 million and coordinating a large team to achieve the highest-ever participation in the fest was a testament to my unwavering dedication.

In addition to my academic pursuits, I have been actively involved in volunteer activities. As a volunteer for the National Service Scheme, I conducted social service activities in rural areas, contributing to the welfare of underprivileged communities. Mentoring juniors under the Student Mentor Program also reinforced my commitment to supporting the holistic development of others.

My research experiences further highlight this commitment. At the University of Alberta, I developed a React-based Ontology Visualization Research Framework for a Smart Building Project and worked on a Depression Detection Project using Natural Language Processing and Machine Learning. These projects underscored the potential of technology in solving pressing issues and improving lives.

This commitment is deeply meaningful to me because it aligns with my core values of innovation, leadership, and social impact. Technology has the power to create significant positive changes, and being at the forefront of this transformation is both a responsibility and a privilege. The actions I have taken, from internships and research projects to leadership roles and volunteer activities, all stem from this deep-seated commitment.

Looking ahead, I aim to continue this journey by pursuing an MBA at MIT Sloan. The program’s emphasis on thoughtful leadership, innovation, and societal impact resonates with my career goals. I am eager to further develop my skills and collaborate with like-minded individuals to drive technological advancements that address global challenges. This commitment to technology and societal impact will remain my guiding principle as I strive to make a meaningful difference in the world.

2. Describe the community that has been most meaningful to you. What is the most valuable thing you have gained from being a part of this community and what is the most important thing you have contributed to this community? (500 words)

The community that has been most meaningful to me is the IIT Kharagpur alumni network. This vibrant and supportive community has played a crucial role in my personal and professional development, providing invaluable opportunities for learning, growth, and collaboration.

One of the most valuable aspects of being part of this community is the access to a diverse and accomplished group of individuals. The alumni network spans various industries and geographies, offering a wealth of knowledge and experience. Through interactions with alumni, I have gained insights into different career paths, industry trends, and best practices. These interactions have helped me make informed decisions about my own career and broaden my perspective on the possibilities within the field of technology and beyond.

Another significant benefit of this community is the mentorship and guidance I have received. Many alumni have been generous with their time and advice, helping me navigate challenges and seize opportunities. This support has been instrumental in my growth, providing me with the confidence and direction needed to pursue my goals.

In terms of contributions, I have actively engaged with the alumni network to give back and support others. As a mentor for current students, I have shared my experiences and insights, helping them navigate their academic and career journeys. I have also organized and participated in alumni events, facilitating connections and knowledge sharing within the community. Additionally, my involvement in projects and initiatives that align with the community’s values of innovation and social impact has further reinforced my commitment to contributing meaningfully to this network.

One notable contribution was my role in the National Service Scheme, where I conducted social service activities in rural areas. This initiative not only provided tangible benefits to underprivileged communities but also inspired others within the alumni network to engage in similar activities. My efforts in promoting social responsibility and community engagement have helped strengthen the values and mission of the IIT Kharagpur alumni network.

The most valuable thing I have gained from being part of this community is a sense of belonging and purpose. The shared values of excellence, innovation, and social impact have resonated deeply with me, reinforcing my commitment to these principles. The support and camaraderie within the network have been a source of motivation and inspiration, driving me to strive for continuous improvement and meaningful contributions.

Looking ahead, I am committed to maintaining and strengthening my ties with the IIT Kharagpur alumni network. As I pursue my MBA at MIT Sloan, I aim to bring the same values of excellence, innovation, and social impact to the Sloan community, fostering collaboration and mutual support. The lessons and experiences from the IIT Kharagpur alumni network will continue to guide me as I seek to make a positive impact in the world.

3. Describe the most significant challenge you have faced. How have you confronted this challenge, and how has it shaped you as a person? (500 words)

The most significant challenge I have faced was leading the first-ever virtual edition of Kshitij, IIT Kharagpur’s annual techno-management fest, during the COVID-19 pandemic. This challenge tested my leadership, adaptability, and resilience in unprecedented ways.

The pandemic forced us to rethink the entire format of the fest, transitioning from a large-scale in-person event to a virtual one. This transformation required not only technical adjustments but also a complete overhaul of our planning and execution strategies. The uncertainty and logistical complexities were daunting, but I was determined to make the event a success.

The first step was to assemble a dedicated team that could handle the various aspects of the virtual fest. I focused on leveraging the strengths of each team member, fostering a collaborative and innovative environment. We conducted regular virtual meetings to brainstorm ideas, address challenges, and ensure everyone was aligned with our goals.

One of the major hurdles was managing the technical infrastructure needed to host the virtual events. We had to ensure seamless streaming, robust security, and an engaging user experience. I worked closely with the technical team to develop and test the necessary systems, troubleshooting issues and making iterative improvements. This hands-on approach not only enhanced my technical skills but also taught me the importance of adaptability and continuous learning.

Another significant challenge was maintaining participant engagement and excitement in a virtual format. We introduced interactive elements such as live Q&A sessions, virtual networking opportunities, and gamified experiences to keep participants actively involved. Marketing and communication played a crucial role in this effort, and I led initiatives to create compelling content and leverage social media to reach a wider audience.

Despite the challenges, the virtual edition of Kshitij was a resounding success, achieving the highest-ever participation in the fest’s history. This experience was profoundly shaping for me, reinforcing the importance of resilience, adaptability, and teamwork. It taught me that challenges can be opportunities in disguise, pushing us to innovate and grow in ways we never imagined.

This experience also highlighted the value of leadership and effective communication. Leading a team through uncertainty required transparency, empathy, and a clear vision. I learned to listen actively, address concerns, and motivate my team, ensuring that everyone felt supported and valued. These leadership lessons have been invaluable in my professional journey and have prepared me to navigate future challenges with confidence.

Facing this challenge has shaped me into a more resilient and adaptable individual. It reinforced my belief in the power of technology and innovation to overcome obstacles and create meaningful experiences. It also deepened my commitment to continuous learning and improvement, as I realized that growth often comes from stepping out of our comfort zones and embracing the unknown.

As I pursue my MBA at MIT Sloan, I am eager to apply these lessons and skills to new challenges and opportunities. The experience of leading Kshitij’s virtual edition has equipped me with the resilience, adaptability, and leadership qualities needed to thrive in a dynamic and evolving environment, and I look forward to contributing these strengths to the Sloan community.
