The HKUST Master of Science in International Management (MIM) program is a one-year, full-time pre-experience postgraduate degree designed for fresh graduates or those with less than two years of full-time work experience who possess multicultural aptitudes and aim to take up international leadership positions in their careers.

The program is offered by the HKUST Business School, one of the youngest and most respected business schools in Asia. The Business School is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB International), the European Quality Improvement System (EQUIS), and the Association of MBAs (AMBA).

Degree Requirement

  • Possess a Bachelor’s degree from a recognized institution or an approved equivalent qualification
  • For MIM (With CEMS Qualification): Possess a Business related Bachelor’s degree from a recognized institution or an approved equivalent qualification

English Proficiency

  • Achieve a satisfactory TOEFL / IELTS score for those whose first language is not English and whose degree or equivalent qualification was awarded by an institution where the medium of instruction was not English

GMAT/GRE

  • MIM: Optional
  • MIM (With CEMS Qualification): Compulsory GMAT/GRE report with a satisfactory score

  • Possess at least two languages including English*
  • Less than 2 years of full-time post-qualification work experience

Language Requirements

  • ALL students who opt for MIM (with CEMS Qualification) should enter the program with at least two (2) languages. Students without a third language upon admission must study an equivalent of at least one term of an introductory course to a third language at HKUST and complete the course before graduation.
  • ALL graduates of the HKUST MIM program (with CEMS Qualification) must be proficient in three (3) languages, including English. The 2nd and the 3rd language can be any language. Only one of these 3 languages can be the student’s mother tongue.

Please Note:

The existing entry requirement on English proficiency remains unchanged and competence is assessed by a recent third-party certification (TOEFL/IELTS) or proof of university medium of instruction in English before admission.

Students have to show obvious capability and proficiency in their declared mother tongue. In particular:

  • Dialects are not regarded as an official language and could not be used to fulfill the CEMS language requirements
  • HKUST only accepts either Mandarin or Cantonese as one of the CEMS languages

Means of language proof for the 2nd language that can be accepted include secondary education, university degree, existing CEMS accredited courses, accredited commercial exams, in-house language exam at CEMS schools, or mother tongue.

Means of language proof for the 3rd language (introductory level) that can be accepted include all of those listed in point 4, plus language course during their study in the MSc program, accredited commercial language courses, or mother tongue. Students who cannot provide valid language proof for the 3rd language are required to study a language course during their study in the MSc program.

Students who have taken or are going to take a language exam may refer to the CEMS website for the full list of recognized language examinations.

Applications can be made through our online application system. Simply register as a user and you will be able to take as much time as necessary to complete the application form before the deadline. Your application should include the following materials:

Scanned copies of academic transcripts, GMAT/GRE official score reports, and TOEFL/IELTS official score reports are sufficient at the application stage. 

The original copies of supporting documents (including transcripts, degree certificates, score reports, etc.) are required if applicants are admitted to the program, and should be submitted before the designated deadline before program commencement.

Scholarships Available : MIM at HKUST

Admissions Scholarship

Eligible candidates will be considered for HKUST MIM Admissions scholarships automatically. Students’ eligibility for scholarships will be assessed after an online application has been submitted and an interview will be conducted on a case-by-case basis.

Dean’s MSc Admissions Scholarship

The HKUST Business School has established the Dean’s MSc Admissions Scholarship for outstanding HKUST UG final-year students and graduates in two years admitted to the School’s MSc programs. Successful applicants will be awarded up to HK$100,000 in tuition waiver.

Eligible applicants admitted to the HKUST MIM Program will be further evaluated for the scholarship based on a rigorous and holistic approach. Successful applicants will be notified by the MIM Program Office of the scholarship award.

No separate application is required.

HKUST Business School’s MSc Diversity Excellence Scholarship

The HKUST Business School has newly launched the MSc Diversity Excellence Scholarship to support outstanding international applicants who are determined to study in the top business school in the Asia hub, share their cultural outlook, and enrich the class diversity in the MSc Programs. Successful applicants will be awarded up to HK$ 100,000 in tuition waiver.

Eligible applicants admitted to the HKUST MIM Program will be evaluated for the scholarship based on a rigorous and holistic approach.

The MIM Program Office will notify successful applicants of the scholarship award.

No separate application is required.

FAQs About MIM at HKUST

There is one intake every year. The foundation summer term for all HKUST students starts in end of July or early August at the HKUST campus.

 

Yes, students who do not have the right to reside in Hong Kong are required to apply for a student visa for entering into Hong Kong and studying on a full-time master degree program. The MSc Programs Office will coordinate with the Fok Ying Tung Graduate School to arrange student visas for all incoming students upon admission and prior to the commencement of the program. The duration of the student visa will cover the whole period of study in the program.

Students are required to undertake an international internship after Term 2 (during summer) in which they will work for a consecutive period of at least 8 weeks in one company outside their home country.

Students are expected to play an active role in securing the internship which must be approved by the school before it starts. The internship can take place at a CEMS Corporate Partner, although this is not compulsory, or at a non-profit organisation.

 

It is up to individual employer’s practice. Students should pay attention to the information provided in the internship description.

On-campus accommodation at HKUST is not available due to heavy demand. Students will have to explore short-term off-campus accommodation. The University’s Student Housing Office will help to explore information for short-term off-campus housing options for the exchange-in and non-local students.
