MMS Interview Experience-1

Interview conducted online

Final Result: Accepted

My interview experience was quite professional and conversational. It went on for like 40 minutes or so. The interviewer, while polite, had a serious demeanor and asked me the following questions:

  1. Can you tell me about yourself and your career aspirations, and what inspired you to pursue this program?
  2. Are there any other programs you’ve applied to for your postgraduate studies?
  3. What drew you to DUKE FUQUA and the Master in Management Studies program?
  4. Please explain why you’re interested in the specific fields you mentioned in your application.
  5. How well-connected are you in the industries you’re targeting, and do you have any relevant networks?
  6. How do you plan to further develop your profile and stand out to the companies you aim to work for?
  7. Can you share a specific instance where you effectively applied your communication skills?
  8. Describe a time when you faced a challenge in a team. How did you address it?

The interview was comprehensive, and the interviewer encouraged me to ask questions. While the atmosphere was formal, I appreciated the opportunity to discuss my ambitions and get a sense of the program’s fit.

Final Decision: Interviewed

I had a two-round interview experience for the DUKE FUQUA Master in Management Studies program. The questions in both rounds were similar, and here are some of them:

  1. Could you start by introducing yourself and sharing your most significant strengths and challenges?
  2. What prompted you to pursue a MiM at this point in your life?
  3. Why specifically are you interested in DUKE FUQUA and this program?
  4. What is it about the field you mentioned in your application, like renewable energy, that intrigues you?
  5. Share a situation where you worked effectively within a team.
  6. How have you dealt with team members who weren’t pulling their weight, and what solutions did you apply?
  7. What would you do to resolve such a team issue?
  8. How do you see yourself influencing your cohort, and what do you anticipate learning from them?
  9. Are there specific skills or knowledge you hope to gain during this program?
  10. If accepted, what’s your approach to managing your ongoing projects?

These questions encompass the main topics discussed during my interviews. My tip for future applicants is to focus on demonstrating your potential contributions to the program and how you can thrive in a team environment.

Final Decision: Interviewed

In my interview for the MGM program at DUKE FUQUA, I received some valuable tips from a former forum moderator which I’d like to share:

During the interview, the key is to be yourself and showcase a deep understanding of your profile, including your strengths and weaknesses. Engage with your interviewer, creating an interactive and polite atmosphere. Dress appropriately, considering the interview’s professional setting, and bring copies of your CV and application.

Remember that the admissions committee aims to identify candidates who can excel both academically and as valuable assets to the school and its post-MBA network. If your answers reflect this, you’ll do well in your interview.

These insights served me well during my own interview, which was conducted on campus, and allowed me to have a productive conversation with the interviewer.

Final Decision: Admitted

I was given the opportunity to be interviewed for the MGM program at DUKE. The entire thing went pretty smoothly, it was quite an engaging conversation, which lasted around 30 minutes. I don’t remember all the questions but here are a few that they asked me:

  1. Can you give a brief introduction about yourself, highlighting your career aspirations?
  2. Why are you pursuing an MiM at this point in your life?
  3. What motivated you to choose DUKE FUQUA for your Master in Management Studies?
  4. Share a situation where you displayed effective teamwork.
  5. How would you contribute to the DUKE FUQUA student community?

The interviewer was friendly, and the conversation was direct. It left me with a positive impression of the program and the admissions process.

Final Decision: Admitted

My interview was conducted earlier this week by a Fuqua staff and an alumni. I was dressed in a format attire and so were they. Although the interview was a little intimidating at the beginning but went nicely thereafter. They asked me questions about my academic background, etc etc. The overall interview lasted for around 45 minutes.

  1. Can you provide an overview of your educational background and professional experience?
  2. What were your evaluation criteria for choosing a B-school
  3. Take us into detail for two of the best extra curricular activities that you’ve mentioned in your application.
  4. Tell us about any research paper you might have worked on during your undergrad. What problem were you aiming to solve?
  5. Do you plan to pursue your current interests if you’re admitted?
  6. Share an example of a successful team collaboration experience.
  7. Do you have any questions for us?

The interviewers were welcoming, and the conversation was efficient. It provided me with a clear understanding of the program and what it values in applicants.

My advice for prospective students:

Remember that the interviewer will have a copy of your resume with them during the chat, so it’s good to know it really well, especially the part about your extracurricular activities.

After the interview, it’s a nice touch to shoot the interviewer a thank-you email. Don’t make it too long.

Don’t be shy to have conversations with a bunch of students and alumni, and bring this up during your chat. Share what you picked up from them and how the connections you made had an impact on your decisions and choices. This would showcase your interest in the school and the program and you don’t wanna miss out on that.

Thank you!
