Eligibility Criteria for MeM at UCLA
Applicants for our program should meet the following requirements:
- A bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in an engineering discipline, mathematics or physics
- A GPA of 3.0 in the last two years of undergraduate coursework
- For applicants whose GPA falls slightly below the required threshold, UCLA will also consider other aspects of the application before making an admissions decision.
- GRE test scores may be waived for applicants who have highly competitive holistic portfolios.

TOEFL may be submitted as part of the online application or sent by the testing service directly to the MSOL program office. The institution code for UCLA is 4837.
UCLA does not currently accept MyBest TOEFL scores. The minimum required score on the paper and pencil test must be at least 560 or at least 87 on the internet-based test. For the internet-based TOEFL (TOEFL iBT), the following are the expected scores* for each section:

IELTS Scores
IELTS scores should be sent by the testing service directly to the MSOL program office and the Graduate Division.
The minimum required overall score on the IELTS should be at least 7.0.

Scholarships Available : MeM at UCLA
For applicants and entering students, student financial support funds at UCLA are provided to graduate students in the form of grants, fellowships, traineeships, teaching assistantships and graduate student researcher appointments. Support based solely on need is also provided, in the form of work-study and loans, through the Financial Aid & Scholarships Office.
A student may receive both a departmental or Division of Graduate Education award in addition to an award based solely on financial need if the need-based criteria are met. However, the amount of a need-based award may change based on any other additional awards.
Doctoral Student Travel Grants for Conferences, Professional Development and Off-Campus Research (DTG): This program is to encourage eligible doctoral students to present their work and to network at conferences in their field, to support travel associated with off-campus research and to enable students to take advantage of off-campus professional development opportunities.
Each eligible new doctoral student is provided up to $1,000 total reimbursement that can be used, in whole or in part, at any time through the student’s seventh year in the doctoral program, as long as the student and the activities meet the eligibility requirements. ABOUT THE PROGRAM How quickly can students earn their degree?
Students can earn their degree in a little over two years. Most graduates finish in two years and a quarter, but you are allowed up to three years to earn your degree. The maximum time allowed in this program is three academic years (nine quarters), excluding summer sessions.
Is the program completely asynchronous?
This degree offers fully online courses that can be accessed asynchronously from anywhere in the world. Students are required to meet regular deadlines for submitting assignments.
For exams, MSOL students can take their exams anywhere in the world over a period of two days, but these exams must be completed in person. Students can either come to the UCLA campus during the official exam time or complete their exams at a local test center.
Are internships considered as work expereince?
You can enter all types of work experience in the Education and Experience section as well as detailing these experiences on your CV (Resumé).
Can I earn my engineering management degree part-time while working?
Yes, this program is specifically designed to be completed part-time by working professionals. Asynchronous courses make it possible to view lectures at the times that are most convenient for you.
Will the degree or transcript state that this is an “online” degree?
No, there is no mention of “online” on the diploma or transcript. The transcript will list courses by the department name/course number in the same fashion as on-campus programs. The degree designation will read “Master of Science in Engineering with Certificate of Specialization in Engineering Management.”
