Eligibility Criteria for MeM at Ohio State University

To prepare applicants for success in the MEM program, it is required that they have an earned bachelor’s degree in engineering and at least one year of professional work or internship experience. Note for International Applicants:

International applicants whose native language is not English are required to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). Scores more than two years old when we receive your application will not be accepted. A minimum TOEFL score of 550 on paper based or 79 on internet based. 

Applicants who are citizens of, or who have received a bachelor’s degree or higher in, one of the following countries are exempt from the TOEFL requirement:

Anguilla, Antigua, Australia, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Caicos Islands, Canada (except Quebec), Cayman Islands, Dominica, England, Grenada, Guyana, Ireland, Jamaica, Liberia, Montserrat, New Zealand, Scotland, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent, Trinidad and Tobago, Turks, United States, and Wales.

Once admitted, international students must complete Ohio State’s ESL Composition Placement Test to demonstrate proficiency in academic English. Based on results of the ESL Composition Placement Test, students may have to take additional coursework in English as a Second Langauge. Students with a TOEFL (iBT) score of 114 or higher or 101 or higher and a 28 on the writing section will be exempt from the ESL Composition Placement Test. Scholarships Available : MeM at Ohio State University

MEM students are eligible to apply for federal unsubsidized and Graduate PLUS loans to cover the cost of attendance if enrolled for at least 4 credit hours per semester. You cannot apply for financial aid until you are an admitted student at Ohio State. At that time you begin the process by completing a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). This information is then sent to Ohio State’s Student Financial Aid Office where they can determine your eligibility and provide you with an Award Letter which states the amount of loans you are eligible to receive.

Specializations & Electives Offered

The Master of Engineering Management (MEM) is a 30-credit hour degree with a curriculum that aims to transform engineers into exceptional leaders in their field. The integrative curriculum includes core courses that teach business leadership, engineering and project management, finance and accounting for engineers, technology strategy and innovation management, visual data analysis and design of engineering experiments. This unique curriculum is made possible by combining courses taught by faculty experts from the College of Engineering, John Glenn College of Public Affairs, and The Fisher College of Business.

Students have the opportunity to earn Six Sigma Certification in addition to the MEM degree if they complete ISE 5810 Lean Sigma Foundations as an elective course. Yellow, Green, or even Black Belt can be earned depending upon previous Six Sigma projects completed. Contact the program for more information. 

The MEM can be completed at a student’s desired pace in as little as 16 months. Most students elect to take one or two courses per semester and complete the degree in about three years.
