The MSc in Engineering with Management is designed for graduates who wish to combine leading-edge knowledge in management practices and state-of-the-art practical advances to lead in the new era of engineering and technology.

This unique, one-year masters degree in Engineering with Management combines the foundations of management for engineering and technology, with the opportunity to pursue one of three specialist pathways.

Intelligent Manufacturing will be supported by staff and industry who specialise in the areas of 3D printing, Industry 4.0 and the Internet of Things. Likewise, Energy for Sustainability and Infrastructure Systems draw on the University’s well established and respected research history in areas such as smart systems and renewable energy as well as its links to key influencers and decision makers in government.

Each pathway provides a crucial understanding of digitisation, sustainability and global development challenges and their impact on engineering management in the 21st century.

In addition, this course will support roles based in manufacturing, supply chain management or government, particularly where technology is of importance to business success.

This postgraduate degree is intended to prepare you with the skills and knowledge needed for leadership roles in global technology industries or in dynamic entrepreneurial start-up companies in order to address global challenges, the digital revolution and the business dilemma of sustainability.

Eligibility Criteria for MeM at Bristol

An upper second-class honours degree or international equivalent in an engineering-related subject. Applicants must be able to demonstrate strong academic engagement with engineering, evidenced in their transcript. Applicants may be recommended for an alternative Engineering with Management pathway based on their academic and work experience. Applicants with a lower-class degree and relevant work experience will be considered case-by-case.

  • Statement of Purpose: Reasons or intentions for pursuing studies in this program, including a description of prior experience.
  • 3 Letters of Recommendation: Three letters of recommendation are required; one letter must come from an academic source, although Stanford prefers at least two. Recommendations must be submitted online. 
  • Official GRE Test Scores: Students have to submit their GRE Test Scores.
  • ELP Scores: Students have to submit their English language proficiency scores like IELTS, TOEFL, or other test scores.

Specializations & Electives Offered

  • Core units provide a common platform of underpinning skills and knowledge at a postgraduate level to help you understand key principles of management and business practices and develop the interdisciplinary skills required for leadership in engineering and technology industries.
  • Units include Strategic Business Management for Engineers to provide fundamentals of what strategy is and differentiate it from other business activities. The programme is designed to develop your analytical and critical skills in the strategic management issues facing technological organisations in today’s fast-changing environment.
  • The Engineering Design and Technology unit provides knowledge of the technologies on which the modern engineered world is built. It will introduce a combination of theoretical foundations, practical methods and tools to apply in the Global Challenge Project where you’ll work collaboratively on a real-world multidisciplinary project.
  • The Uncertainty and Risk Management unit provides relevant techniques to identify, quantify and analyse uncertainties in engineering applications, to support well-informed decisions about improving products, and processes and mitigate risk in projects.

Finally, you will complete a supervised research-based dissertation project.

You are eligible to apply if you have earned a Bachelor of Science in a similar science discipline, but you may be at a disadvantage compared to engineering majors who have applied.  Yes. Students with a BS degree are eligible to apply to the PhD program.

You can enter all types of work experience in the Education and Experience section as well as detailing these experiences on your CV (Resumé).

The submission of these scores mainly depends on the type of degree/ course selected at the University of Bristol. For example, the GMAT test is required to take admission to an abroad graduate management program, the LSAT is required during an abroad Law School admission process, and more.
