Wharton Executive MBA Winning Sample Essay 1
ESSAY 1:
My career objective is to transition from technology consulting into a senior business leadership role, leveraging my technical expertise and developing strategic business acumen. With over 13 years at Tata Consultancy Services, I have successfully managed multi-million dollar client portfolios and led global teams across the U.S., U.K., Germany and the Netherlands. However, I have hit a ceiling in my current path focused solely on technical delivery. I need to augment my technology depth with broader business, strategy and leadership skills to further accelerate my career growth.
The Wharton MBA Program for Executives is an ideal next step to elevate my impact. The cutting-edge Management and Technology curriculum will help me bridge the gap between technology and business strategy. Core courses like Strategic Management, Marketing Management, and Corporate Finance will provide a well-rounded business foundation. And electives like Mergers and Acquisitions allow me to specialise in driving corporate growth and transformation.
Moreover, Wharton’s emphasis on applied knowledge through client capstones and hands-on learning experiences will be invaluable. I am eager to leverage the opportunities offered through Wharton Leadership Ventures and international courses to develop a truly global perspective. With expanding competition, leaders must combine strategic vision with execution excellence – skillsets I aim to master.
My goal post-Wharton is to take on P&L responsibility and spearhead business strategy as a VP or Managing Director for a top technology consultancy. The Wharton alumni network is simply unparalleled, with incredible representation in senior roles across my target companies like Accenture, Deloitte and IBM. I am confident the program will empower me with the skills, experiences, and connections to realize my vision.
ESSAY 2 :
With my global experiences across four countries and passion for mentoring, I will greatly enrich the diversity and pay-forward culture at Wharton. My unique international perspective, spanning the U.S., U.K., Germany and the Netherlands, has allowed me to develop an innate understanding of how to navigate different cultures. I thrive in driving collaboration across boundaries and finding common ground.
In the U.K., I successfully expanded our company’s footprint by overcoming the initial scepticism and pushback from local contractors nervous about the offshoring threat I represented. Through patient diplomacy and personal rapport-building, I earned their trust and advocacy. This approach of bridging divides through mutual understanding will be an invaluable contribution to the intimately diverse Wharton classroom.
Furthermore, I will enrich the academic experience by sharing insights from my technology realm. For instance, I drove the first-ever implementation of Product Master Data Management using Informatica software for a major life sciences company. My capstone team could hugely benefit from understanding the complexities and implications of such technology transformations.
Perhaps most importantly, I am passionate about mentoring and developing those around me. At TCS, I have mentored new graduates to ease their transitions into the workforce. I also volunteered as a mentor for underprivileged high school students in a STEM program, helping them conceptualize and pitch business ideas. At Wharton, I will enthusiastically extend mentorship to current students, sharing my journey and learnings as a more seasoned professional. I will leverage my program learnings to foster the entrepreneurial thinking and leadership mindsets of my brilliant peers.
Combining my global outlook, technology expertise and mentorship drive, I will be a proactive force enhancing the transformative Wharton experience for my cohort and truly making my mark on this prestigious community.
ESSAY 3:
I want to provide some additional context around my decision to pursue an MBA at this stage of my career after 13+ years of progressive experience at TCS.
Though I have been extremely fortunate to advance my career from an individual contributor to a portfolio leader managing $9M in annual revenue, I have come to realize that my growth is starting to plateau. While I have developed exceptional technological expertise across various domains like commercial data management, artificial intelligence, and business process automation, I lack the strategic business acumen required to ascend into upper leadership positions with P&L ownership and end-to-end strategy responsibilities.
Additionally, the technology consulting world is becoming increasingly competitive and commoditized. To stay ahead and provide differentiated value, I need to couple my technical depth with big-picture business vision, financial management, and an entrepreneurial, innovative mindset. An elite MBA program like Wharton’s will provide the ideal setting for me to elevate to that next level.
My current role has given me an invaluable foundation of project leadership, stakeholder management, and deep institutional knowledge across industries. An MBA will now help me build upon that foundation with new strategy, marketing, finance and entrepreneurial skillsets required for senior leadership impact. I am ready to take this transformative next step in my career and cannot wait to immerse myself in Wharton’s thriving community of business trailblazers.

My diverse background, spanning over a decade in the technology and finance sectors, positions me uniquely to contribute meaningfully to the Wharton community. My professional journey has equipped me with a deep understanding of technology’s role in driving business innovation and the importance of cross-functional collaboration in achieving strategic objectives.
Professionally, I have led significant projects at Citadel Securities, Box, and Mesosphere, where I have managed teams, developed innovative solutions, and driven major technological transformations. At Citadel Securities, I spearheaded the development of a unified trading platform, which streamlined high-touch trading across multiple financial instruments and geographies. At Citadel Securities, I have mentored junior engineers and interns, helping them navigate their career paths and develop their skills. I plan to continue this at Wharton by actively participating in mentorship programs, sharing my experiences, and supporting my peers in achieving their personal and professional goals.
Lastly, my involvement in initiatives to support differently-abled individuals, such as working with the National Centre for Promotion of Employment for Disabled People (NCPEDP), has taught me the importance of advocacy and social responsibility. I aim to bring this commitment to social impact to Wharton, contributing to community service projects and initiatives that promote diversity, equity, and inclusion.
In summary, my professional expertise, academic background, global perspective, and commitment to mentorship and social impact will enable me to make meaningful contributions to the Wharton community.

There are no specific extenuating circumstances that I need to bring to the Admissions Committee’s attention. However, I would like to use this space to highlight my commitment to continuous learning and professional development despite the demanding nature of my roles.
Balancing a high-responsibility job at Citadel Securities with my pursuit of further education and professional growth has been challenging but immensely rewarding. I have managed to excel in my professional duties while continuously seeking opportunities to expand my knowledge and skills. This commitment is demonstrated by my successful management of multiple high-stakes projects, securing patents, and presenting at leading industry conferences.
Additionally, my role often involves long hours and significant travel across different time zones. Despite these demands, I have consistently prioritized my personal development, as evidenced by my decision to pursue an MBA at this stage of my career. I believe that this dedication to balancing professional excellence with continuous learning underscores my readiness for the rigorous Wharton MBA Program for Executives.
