Your interactions with the Career Management team start before you are even accepted into the Ivey MSc Program. Career Management plays a critical role in our admissions process, interviewing candidates to ensure that their career goals and expectations are defined, realistic, and achievable. Your admissions interview is the starting point of your relationship with our Career Advisors, which will last throughout your time at Ivey.

Career advisors partner with students to advise and coach on career and recruiting topics, both individually (e.g., one-on-one appointments) and in groups (e.g., classes and workshops).

Ivey’s career advisors focus on empowering students with the knowledge, skills and capabilities needed to reach their recruiting and career goals, with a special focus on cultivating communication skills. Students learn how to communicate with intention, differentiate themselves in the job market, present themselves with polish and professionalism, and make strong career decisions throughout their time in the program and beyond.

Students can partner with career advisors in individual appointments for a variety of topics, including:

  • Defining and mapping out career strategies
  • Creating and executing action plans to build and maintain networks of professional relationships
  • Learning and practicing interview skills
  • Refining and polishing application documents, including resumes and cover letters
  • Learning to navigate offer conversations
  • Learning and practicing networking skills 

Eligibility Criteria for Western University MSc In International Business

All streams of the MSc in Management share the following admission requirements:

  • An undergraduate degree completed within the past two years for International Business, CEMS, Digital Management and within four years for Business Analytics. You are able to apply to the MSc program during your last year of study.
  • A strong academic record demonstrated during your two most recent years of academic study

Richard Ivey MSc Excellence Awards 

Valued at up to $20,000, these awards are available to outstanding candidates pursuing the Ivey MSc in Management. All applicants are automatically considered for these awards. This evaluation is based on academic merit, leadership, past experience, international engagement and your score in our admissions interview.

Financial Need Awards 

Valued at up to $20,000, these awards are available to candidates who indicate a significant financial need in their online application. In order to be considered for these awards, students must complete the “Apply for Awards” section of the application. Only candidates who complete the scholarship section of the application will be considered for these awards. Not all applicants who request a Financial Need Award will receive funding.

MSc Indigenous Entrance Scholarships

All Ivey MSc in Management applicants will be considered holistically. The MSc admissions process takes into account- academic performance, community contribution, career ambitions, personal motivation and leadership orientation.

Applicants who self-identify as Indigenous* Learners and who are admitted to the MSc will automatically be considered for one of five MSc Indigenous Entrance Scholarships valued at up to $10,000.

Rise Awards in Resilient Leadership for Indigenous Students (MSc)

Awarded annually to a full-time student entering any stream (Business Analytics, Digital Management, and International Business) of the MSc Program at the Ivey Business School. The award will be given to an equity- deserving student who self-identifies as an Indigenous* Learner and who demonstrates community leadership and academic achievement. Preference will be given to students who demonstrate financial need.

Value: 1 at $5,000 (Business Analytics, Digital Management, OR International Business)

*Indigenous refers to the Original People of Turtle Island (North America) including First Nations, Metis and Inuit people of Canada as well as Native American, Native Alaskan, and Native Hawaiian people from the United States.

Rise Awards in Resilient Leadership for Black Students (MSc)

Awarded annually to a full-time student entering any stream (Business Analytics, Digital Management, and International Business) of the MSc Program at the Ivey Business School. The award will be given to an equity-deserving student who self-identifies as Black and who demonstrates community leadership and academic achievement. Preference will be given to students who have demonstrated financial need.

The MSc Awards Committee will make the final selection of the award recipient. At least one representative must hold membership in the School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies. These awards are available to both domestic and international students. Financial need will be determined by the information provided by the student in the scholarship section of their Program application.

Core Courses

  • Cross Cultural Management: In this era of globalization and its consequences, it is crucial for business leaders to have an understanding of cultural differences and to be able to manage them both to reduce conflict and to increase communication, learning, and innovation. This course explores what culture is and how cultural differences influence different management situations, from individual performance in international contexts, to multicultural teams and global organizations. Students will apply the lessons in a live, collaborative project. Students will develop a deep, theoretical understanding of the nature of cultures, gain analytical skills in diagnosing and mapping cultural differences, and develop behavioral skills for working effectively across cultures.
  • Internationalization: This course introduces a variety managerial challenges face by businesses operating internationally, and applies several analytical perspectives to explain these challenges. Through journal articles and business cases it is designed to familiarize students with theories of the international business and their practical implications.

Ivey Essentials

This course focuses on business essentials: Accounting, Finance, Leadership, Marketing, Operations, and Strategy. Students will be introduced to Ivey’s high engagement case-based learning methodology. The course is designed to aid students in understanding materials for their courses throughout the program.

Some of the key learning outcomes include:

  • Accounting: recording and using of financial business transactions to inform and support decision-making.
  • Business Communications: develop an understanding about targeting your message and flexing your style to your audience.
  • Finance: analyzing of financial problems corporations face including managing exchange risk, calculating the cost of capital, capital budgeting, and taxation.
  • Leadership / Organizational Behavior: managing and participating effectively in teams by understanding the factors that lead to effective and ineffective team behavior.
  • Marketing: identifying and capitalizing on market opportunities.
  • Operations: identifying and understanding how effectively managing operations contribute to customer value.
  • Strategy: key concepts and tools in the context of competitive strategy; differences between corporate, competitive, and functional strategies.
