Respected Ms. Levenson and Mr. Garcia,
I have 12 years of experience in semiconductor technology development with Intel. Currently, I am a principal engineer at Intel and lead process qualification and product manufacturing efforts. Over the last decade, I have backpacked my way through the landscape of Semiconductor product design and manufacturing; each step taken to get me closer to my long-term career goal of executive leadership in technology.
I started my journey at Intel after completing my Doctoral thesis at Northwestern University. At Northwestern, I led the Computational Materials Lab and Steel Research Group. After 2 years as a leader of both groups, I wanted to find a collaborative culture outside of academia where I could lead technological advances. Intel proved a wonderful fit where I currently lead cutting-edge breakthroughs from concept to concrete product.
I am the co-Inventor (US patent filed 16/631352) of Variable work-function Transistor circuits – World’s first Variable Transistor switching technology. I supervise and lead multiple teams in performance enhancements for mobile products. These 12 years have allowed me to explore the technical challenges and develop great problem-solving skills while leading technical teams. From here onwards, the next step in my career progression would involve managing a complete product development or a portfolio of products.
At Intel, product portfolio management is more akin to venture capital, combining technical prowess and business acumen. Having majored in engineering, my business knowledge to date has been acquired informally through executive mentoring. A formal business education such as that from MIT Sloan Fellows program would give me the knowledge and leadership skills I need to succeed as a product portfolio manager. I especially look forward to fulfilling gaps in my business acumen and perspective which have started to hinder my career progress beyond the principal engineering level.
During my campus visit to MIT and conversations with Sloan alumni, two things stood out: the goal-specific Executive tracks, like the Enterprise Management track; and the leadership development programs, like Lens on Leadership and Global Perspectives, and how they can help in honing managerial personality and skills.
At MIT, apart from the foundational courses, I look forward to attending Prof. Fiona Murray’s course on Strategic Management and Prof. Steven Eppinger’s course on Product Design and Development which detail direct applications of Product design practices in current industries. These courses are directly relevant to my immediate goals and would help me upskill in areas which have come up often as my weakness when presenting my work to Intel’s executive team.
Dedicating a year to the program, especially at this stage of a successful career and family life, is a bold but decisive investment in my future. But I believe the residential program is ideal to foster further personal and professional growth.

At Intel, we are dedicated to promoting diversity and inclusion in the workforce. As a senior technical expert, I have embraced and advocated this approach to make the workplace a uniquely embracing, inclusive environment.
When I joined Intel more than a decade ago, we had a workforce comprising < 10% women in engineering roles. As I rose in technical leadership roles, I took initiatives to improve retention rate from below 20% to our targeted 80% in the last 4 years.
I am a strong promoter of work-life balance for factory employees going above and beyond to accommodate my teams’ unique requirements. Recently I witnessed one of my team’s highly talented minority women members struggling to keep up with the daily routine due to her newborn kid and absence of child support due to certain reasons. Upon reviewing her work-life situation, we mutually worked up a revised schedule for her to balance her work and childcare role more efficiently. Since then, not only have her contributions been more impactful but also she was one of the primary drivers of our success and single-handedly won us an award.
I have taken the corporate policy of Diversity, inclusion and equality one step further into my everyday life where I promote STEM interest among middle school students, in districts that have more minority populations, with the annual ‘Science-O-Rama’ event. I also took the initiative to establish the ‘Culture Awareness’ series as part of the Intel Asian Association, to bring diversity into employees’ children’s upbringing.

As a Principal Engineer, I lead multi-functional research teams in product performance enhancements. My 4 tenets of success for leading my teams are – strength in teamwork, fearlessness in proposing solutions, data-driven results and letting numbers do the talking. When confronted with multiple pathways, I encourage my teams to present data-based arguments.
A very recent challenge tasked to my team was to find a way to alleviate extreme high-stress points in our newest chip product. Upon deep analysis, we found the leading cause to be a non-uniform stress profile due to variance in a certain dimension of the product, as represented in Fig. 1.
The next step was to find a process improvement that would flatten the stress profile and dimension uniformity across the chip’s width. We came up with 2 identical yielding solutions – Options A and B shown in Fig. 2 and 3 respectively. Both options met all initial criteria for success, including cost and time factors. Then the obvious challenge was how to determine which one was the best enhancement.
I tasked my team to think outside the box and look at further downstream manufacturing or supply chain challenges. One team member found out that the manufacturing process would limit the ‘Receding height’ of a chip transistor for a given Variable Y. Based on Fig 4, only Option-B satisfies this condition, and gives plenty of margin for manufacturing tolerance.
We presented our full enhancement package with Option B as the correct solution and successfully implemented the change.

Dear Mr. Garcia,
I’m writing this letter to apply for MIT Sloan’s two-year MBA program. Presently, I am working as the CEO and co-founder of “SurgyPedia”. It’s an ed-tech startup I co-founded with one of my doctor friends and our vision is to revolutionize the medical education space in India by bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and experiential learning.
I come from a business family and started my career in our family firm but later joined Deloitte as a business consultant. At Deloitte, I worked in multicultural teams with people from diverse backgrounds. My work performances and client recognitions helped me get promoted twice in two years. It advanced my career to be the youngest senior consultant and gave me the opportunity to lead a team of seven consultants and multiple international projects in SouthEast Asia and the US.
After four years of experience in consulting, I launched my own medical ed-tech startup. Since its inception, we attracted 10K+ users with monthly revenue growth of more than 30%. We recently got featured as one of the most promising Indian startups and secured first-round funding from a top VC firm. We are also in talks with several Silicon Valley-based incubators such as YCombinator for our expansion plans in the United States.
During my campus visit to MIT Sloan last fall, what appealed to me the most was the conducive environment for nurturing ideas and pursuing entrepreneurship via action learning, and Global Entrepreneurship Lab. I believe MIT Sloan will be a perfect ecosystem where I can have access to a broader community of entrepreneurs and nurture my own startup.
