Harvard 2+2 MBA Winning Sample Essay

ESSAY 1

As you review my application, I would like to provide deeper insights into the journey that has shaped me both personally and professionally. My experiences have fostered a deep sense of resilience, a commitment to social impact, and a vision for leveraging technology and business acumen to drive meaningful change.

My journey began in a middle-class family where education was highly valued, but resources were limited. From a young age, I learned the importance of hard work, self-reliance, and perseverance. These values were instilled by my parents, who, despite their modest means, ensured that I received the best education possible. Their journey of self-made success has been a cornerstone of my ethos.

One significant challenge I faced was balancing my academic pursuits with the need to self-finance my education. During my undergraduate studies, I took up a demanding internship to gain financial independence. This decision, though challenging, taught me invaluable lessons in time management and resilience. A temporary setback in my seventh semester, where I had to repeat a course, was a pivotal moment. I dedicated myself to overcoming this hurdle, eventually achieving the highest grade in the repeated course. This experience sharpened my ability to handle stress and reinforced my determination to succeed despite obstacles.

My professional journey has been equally formative. Starting at Mu Sigma, a burgeoning data science startup, I witnessed firsthand the rapid growth and transformation of a company. Working with Fortune 500 clients across four countries, I honed my analytical skills and learned the importance of adaptability and collaboration. This foundation set the stage for my subsequent roles, where I continued to build on these skills.

At FinIQ Singapore, I chose to join a smaller, flat-hierarchy firm over more established companies in India. This decision was driven by a sense of loyalty and the potential for significant early-career impact. As the first-ever student offered a position at FinIQ’s head office, I embraced the opportunity to contribute strategically to the firm’s growth. This role not only expanded my technical expertise but also provided insights into the vibrant venture capital ecosystem in Singapore. It was here that I realized the potential of combining technological innovation with strategic investment to drive large-scale impact.

Beyond my professional achievements, I have consistently sought ways to give back to the community. My involvement with the campus school service at Aalto University, which caters to the children of campus workers, is a testament to this commitment. Organizing an exhibition that showcased the beauty of science to these children was a deeply fulfilling experience. It underscored the importance of empathetic leadership and the impact of educational initiatives on underprivileged communities.

Additionally, my interactions with a diverse student body at Aalto University, including organizing a charity bake sale amid the Russia-Ukraine conflict, enriched my worldview. These experiences taught me that compassion and understanding can bridge the widest divides, reinforcing my commitment to making a positive impact through my actions.

Looking ahead, I am driven by a vision to leverage my expertise in data science and business to create a venture capital fund dedicated to tackling global challenges through technology-driven solutions. My goal is to identify, support, and invest in startups that have the potential to drive significant social and economic impact.

To achieve this, I seek to deepen my business acumen, expand my network, and gain practical experience in venture capital and entrepreneurship. The Harvard Business School MBA program, with its case method pedagogy, esteemed faculty, and vibrant community, offers the ideal environment for me to achieve these aspirations. Engaging with the Venture Capital Advisors and the Rock Accelerator Program at HBS will refine my approach to nurturing startups. Additionally, I look forward to contributing to the Student Association, leveraging my background to enhance the student experience and continue my journey of learning and growth.

In conclusion, my journey has been shaped by resilience, a commitment to social impact, and a vision for leveraging technology to drive change. I am eager to bring my unique perspectives and experiences to the Harvard Business School community and to embark on this transformative journey.

ESSAY 2:

I aspire to leverage my expertise in data science and business to create a venture capital fund dedicated to solving global challenges through technology-driven solutions. My goal is to identify, support, and invest in innovative startups with the potential for significant social and economic impact. The HBS MBA will equip me with the necessary business acumen, network, and practical experience to achieve this vision.
