How UBC Sauders MBA Interview Works

Applications that are complete in all aspects and qualify in terms of the minimum academic and other criteria specified above are evaluated for being progressed to the next stage in the admission process. Shortlisted candidates will be called for the UBC Sauders MBA interview process.

The UBC Sauders MBA interview panel will evaluate each candidate’s performance in terms of quality of work experience, diversity, leadership qualities, social sensitivity, and multifacetedness.

As a general approach to selecting a candidate for the programme, a multi-factor model is used. These factors include academic track record, GMAT/GRE scores, quality of work experience, performance in the interview, and writing ability test. A composite total score will be calculated for each applicant using the multi-factor model. A merit list is prepared based on the composite total score. The offer of admission will be made to a certain percentage of applicants on the merit list. The number of offers made will depend on the availability of seats. The number of offers will be further subject to the candidate meeting a minimum cutoff in terms of the composite score and/or for any other factor score that the admissions committee may decide on

Who will interview you, and how long will the interview last?

The UBC Sauders MBA program interview is  usually conducted by one of the panel members. The interview typically lasts for 25-30 minutes or may extend to 35-40 minutes in some instances.

Will the interviewer have read my application?

The Panel member has access to your complete application. In most instances, they would have read it completely.

UBC Sauders WAT

Some essential you should know before the IIM B interviews: The WAT subjects are not too challenging, and they frequently concentrate on current economic issues. The college would like to see how well-organized your writing is and how well-reasoned your arguments are.

The following are important reminders to consider before you start writing.

  1. Express your opinions rather than facts
  2. Use reason to approach the issue logically and holistically.
  3. Craft clear and thorough arguments.
  4. Avoid making whatever you write seem complicated.

Some WAT subjects from recent years:

  1. There has been a trend of increasing commercialization in the education sector in India. What measures could be taken by the government and public to curb this trend?
  2. How do you feel about the recent farmer-related legislation?
  3. What can be done to recover and lessen the effects of the Covid-19-related decline in the economy and GDP?
  4. Should the economy be allowed to resume normal operations, or should lockdowns still be in place?

UBC Sauders MBA Interview Questions – 1

I had a zoom interview for the UBC Sauders MBA Proram. It was held on February 17, 2023. I had a conversation with Daniela Aries.

It was 45 minutes long. UBC conducts interviews with external HR professionals.

Questions (not in order):

1. Why an MBA?

2. Why Now?

3. Why Sauder?

4. What is the biggest obstacle you anticipate during your MBA?

5. What three adjectives would your coworkers use to describe you? 6. Which one do you agree with and which do you disagree with?

7. How can you improve the classroom?

8. What sort of alum are you going to be?

9. How will you set short- and long-term goals and connect them to your work.

10 What’s one thing would you like me to ask you?

11. Tell us about your engagement in the community?

Talking with Daniela was a pleasure, and I valued our exchange. The 45 minutes passed quickly. The fact that I had previously seen her in webinars held by the institution was helpful. While we were talking, she did take a LOT of notes. That might be very excellent or very bad. Time will tell, I guess.

Generally speaking, be ready. Understand the program’s finer points, especially why they speak to YOU in particular. Details are crucial. If you can, I would suggest attending to a few practise interviews. I systematically looked through the films I had made of myself responding to the most frequent inquiries. You are a human with good points and bad points. They’re aware of it. You should be aware of the same. Show them that you are aware of your shortcomings and outline what you have/are doing to correct them. In any case, I hope the debrief was helpful.

UBC Sauders MBA Interview Questions – 4

My interview for the UBC Sauder MBA Program was held on March 19, 2021. I was able to schedule an interview with Ms. Vivian Tran after three scheduling changes as the school portal was unavailable for a few days. I can think of the following questions, not necessarily in that order:

1) Why pursue an MBA at UBC at this time in your career?

2) What’s the program element you are most anticipating?

3) What are your short- and long-term career objectives as well as your MBA plans?

4) What are your best accomplishment and worst error ideally in a professional capacity?

5) What if there was one member in a team of five who was plainly not doing their share of the work and submitting work that was subpar or late? What would you do in that situation?

6) Imagine if everyone is working hard right now, but someone in your organisation has a radically different idea of how to approach a certain business problem. How do you behave?

7) Any questions for us?

Overall, it was a really simple process, and the interview took about 30 minutes. She responded that the turnaround time was currently three weeks, which was what I would have anticipated given the season.

Client Testimonials

UBC Sauders MBA Interview Questions – 5

I recently had my interview for UBC Sauder MBA Program with Liz through Skype. She reportedly only does Skype interviews, so candidates from outside may also meet her. If you have an on-campus interview, it will generally be with another admissions representative.

Following were the questions asked:

1. Why do you want to do MBA?

2. What excites you most about joining the Sauder community?

3. What are your short-term objectives?

4. What are your long-term objectives?

5. How will your MBA and short-term objectives assist you achieve your long-term objectives?

6. Tell me about a moment when you and your boss disagreed.

7. What misunderstanding might your coworkers have of you?

8. What more institutions have you applied to?

9. What would you pick first?

It was a more informal chat. Be yourself. Perform thorough research about the school. Be sure of your words. Copies of other people’s words and crude language won’t help. Despite the standard questions, I considered this interview to be far more difficult. Hope this was useful.

I wish all of the applicants luck.
