Autumn Semester

View all Autumn course offerings below:

  • Entrepreneurial Challenge

The Entrepreneurial Challenge course is a challenging module. You’ll learn and experience what it takes to launch a brand-new, ambitious business. You’ll eventually realize that management is necessary for both new and current enterprises.

A brief overview of social entrepreneurship philosophy and research is provided in the course. Teams will design and modify their own start-up prospects and investigate workable business models in the field of social entrepreneurship in order to apply the fundamental concepts and tools in a real-life scenario.

By studying the initial phases of the process—the identification and appraisal of possibilities and the search for workable business models—in this session, you may cultivate that mentality.

Every student enrolled in the course must actively participate in the lectures. Students also need to set aside extra time each day to prepare for class by reading assigned readings and working on projects.

This course is both a pressure cooker module for creating a business case and presenting it in front of a jury, requiring your complete commitment, and a crash course in the (theoretical) foundations of entrepreneurship.

  • Strategic Management

Why do some businesses outperform others? Why can some businesses adjust to new technologies while others cannot? By examining how businesses might organize their internal resources and competencies to align them with the environment to gain competitive advantage, the Strategic Management course seeks to answer these challenges.

The primary topics covered in this course are theories of competitive advantage and the analytical tools that managers can use to develop business strategies. It examines business- and corporate-level strategies and how they contribute to the development of a competitive advantage.

There are six sessions in the course. Three components will make up each session. The theoretical underpinnings of the session’s theme are covered in the first section of the course. You will work in groups to complete an assignment based on the case study and readings from the second section.

Based on your responses to the assignment questions, you will jointly discuss the case in the third section. Teams of five students will be randomly chosen to work on both the team project and the in-class tasks. The makeup of each team will be disclosed on Canvas prior to the first meeting.

  • Marketing Management

Marketing Management is a comprehensive course that focuses on the strategic planning, implementation, and analysis of marketing activities within organizations. It equips students with a solid understanding of fundamental marketing principles and techniques. The course covers various aspects, including market research, consumer behavior, product development, branding, pricing strategies, promotional campaigns, and distribution channels.

Students will learn how to identify target markets, develop effective marketing strategies, and create compelling marketing plans. Additionally, they explore the use of digital marketing tools, social media platforms, and analytics to optimize marketing efforts. Marketing Management provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to navigate the dynamic and competitive landscape of modern marketing.

This course’s objective is to expose students to the field of marketing. What is marketing, the marketing concept, and how can businesses create value are the main topics that will be covered in this course. A combination of lectures and case discussions will be included in each session. Students must arrive to class prepared and participate fully in the discussions.

  • Business Analytics

The subject matter of the Business Analytics course covers statistical and machine learning methodologies and techniques, as well as their use in research settings. The course is divided into a theoretical section that discusses the history of these approaches and strategies and an applied section that develops the skills needed to apply them in research settings.

In addition to providing examples of survey design and the use of data processing tools, the lectures discuss the theoretical underpinnings of measurement and analysis approaches. The programming abilities are practiced each week through the tasks to put the techniques into action.

The group assignments include these strategies into a task that is largely unstructured and addresses a self-selected sustainability-related subject, specifically the sharing economy. The course supports the application and independent assessment of quantitative empirical research.

  • Psychology and Business

Students will examine fundamental psychological concepts in this course that influence and mold the actions and judgements of players in organizations. Before progressively examining how the social context and interaction with other actors impact these characteristics, the course begins by considering what motivates independent individual choices and behaviors.

The course’s last section examines situations in which groups of people work together to solve challenges. This course uses a combination of interactive plenary sessions, team projects, survey-based personal reflection assignments, and team projects to explore the themes. You will discuss and critique particular texts, cases, and research findings during the plenary sessions, as well as participate in a number of in-class activities.

You will have to address a real problem with people’s behaviors for the group project. Finally, based on peer input, you will consider how you behave in teams and create specific ideas to enhance your performance in teams in the future.

  • Accounting

The foundations of accounting are covered in this course. It goes over the numerous methods that financial and non-financial data can be gathered and how this data is shared with individuals who are making decisions. The differences between financial accounting and managerial accounting are made crystal plain in this course.

The financial accounting section of the course covers the creation of financial statements as well as the rules and legislation that financial reporting must follow. Important tasks include identifying information needs, designing an accounting information system, and providing both financial and non-financial information.

Management accounting places a strong emphasis on using accounting data for internal planning and control. The terms used in cost accounting, activity-based costing, value-based management, cost-volume-profit analysis, budgeting, responsibility accounting, and decision-making are covered in this section of the course.

  • Building My Career

Building My Career, which spans blocks 1 through 5, uses a variety of online quizzes, activities, lectures, and other forms to get you ready for the job market and your future employment. Students must first embark on an internal journey to discover more about themselves in terms of personal drivers, interests, and beliefs before finding a fit with the exterior side—the industries—as this preparation is not a simple, easy procedure.

For further information, see this page.

In the second half of this course, through a variety of workshops and tasks, you practice developing a successful personal professional network and work on your own career narrative.

The aim of the lectures, seminars, exercises, digital tools, and between-class assignments is to create competitive job applicants who join the market well-prepared to make informed career decisions using both theoretical and practical approaches.

Spring Semester

View all Spring course offerings below:

  • Corporate Finance

Corporate Finance is a course that explores the financial decisions made by corporations. It covers topics, such as capital budgeting, risk management, financial analysis, and valuation methods. Students will learn how to evaluate investment opportunities, make financing decisions, and maximize shareholder value. It provides a foundation for understanding corporate financial management.

This course covers the essentials of contemporary finance and explains how investment opportunities are valued on the financial markets. The efficient market hypothesis, capital budgeting, the risk-return connection, and net present value are the four most crucial ideas in this subject. The course’s central question—how should a firm’s manager make investment decisions—is addressed using these notions.

  • Research Clinic and Thesis Proposal

The earliest stages of the thesis trajectory, during which the students create their research proposals, are supported by the Research Clinic course. It enables students to understand what is involved in moving from a compelling research topic to defining a specific research issue, selecting a research question, research strategy, and research methodology. 1 EC is given for this course.

The research clinic’s lectures and workshops will assist in developing a research question, doing a literature review, writing the introduction, and discussing methodological issues. In addition, depending on the students’ choice of research profile, the research clinic introduces the students to the special possibilities of either qualitative research or specific quantitative approaches for research in finance. It is based on the Business Analytics course.

  • Decision Science and Operations

This course’s first section looks at making wise decisions. The main goal of the first section of the course is to arm you with the tools you need to perform decision-making activities more effectively. The focus is on the qualitative insights that arise from utilizing models to support managerial thinking and decision-making, not the quantitative components.

Due to the course’s cross-disciplinary structure and linkages to various other fields, such as finance, operations management, marketing, and accounting, the teaching of these subjects has an analytical component.

We all rely on the services and goods that are designed, delivered, and improved in the second section, which is about operations and supply chain management. One of the key areas for businesses to acquire a competitive edge is operations, particularly Supply Chain Management and its nature support.

You will learn about the principles, ideas, and practices of operations management in this section. The topics and factors that influence operations management decisions will be covered in the course, along with tools and techniques for comprehending and controlling costs, speed, flexibility, reliability, and sustainability.

  • Consultancy Project

The Consultancy Project is a component of the Program that aims to improve your understanding of the business world in practice while bringing business closer to your academic education. This assignment will test your ability to examine a real-world issue that originates from a business client and comprehend the unique requirements of a client organization.

In a group of about six students, you will be expected to assist a client in resolving an issue by coming up with fresh, long-lasting recommendations. This procedure is carried out in a project-like working environment with frequent customer interaction. The initiatives frequently occur in a setting with a variety of stakeholders. As a result, managing a range of stakeholders is a part of the project.

This four-month process includes a variety of challenges and reflection periods to help you reflect on the team process and enhance your team behavior. The project team is asked to evaluate the actions of its members and think critically about how they may be improved.

  • Corporate Governance

The rules of the game that businesses use to develop, exploit, and engage in commercial operations to produce an appropriate value are referred to as corporate governance. Both the country level and the firm level, where these regulations are most flexible, are where they are developed.

The primary goal of this course is to build a strategic understanding of corporate ownership and governance given that there is no one ideal answer to the issues surrounding these topics.

The course discusses various forms of ownership, including publicly listed companies, professional partnerships, family businesses, and founder-owned start-ups, for example, in order to explore a variety of corporate governance structures and practices that can be implemented to meet these challenges.

  • MiM Master Thesis

During the spring semester of the Master in Management Program, you will work on your Master’s Thesis, which includes the thesis proposal. Students must do independent, individual research for their master’s thesis that addresses important managerial issues in one of the functional areas of business administration.

The thesis gives students the chance to fully grasp a particular subject because they are required to critically examine a real-world managerial issue within their chosen field and draw convincing, managerially applicable findings. It enables students to build a personal brand and enhance their practical scientific business and management research skills.

The main areas of business administration are covered by the thesis subjects, such as marketing, strategy, finance, supply chain, etc. However, the research goal must be placed within the broader context of business administration. On your grade sheet, the thesis’s title will be noted. Therefore, it is advised to pick a title that expresses the business importance effectively. There are 16 EC in the thesis.

The RSM Erasmus MIM Admission Requirements

The RSM Erasmus MIM program has specific admission requirements that applicants need to fulfill. Here is an overview of the requirements:

  • Education:

A (BSc) degree or an undergraduate degree that is on par with an academic bachelor’s degree earned at a Dutch research institution (WO) is required in order to be qualified for this master’s program.

  • GMAT/GRE:

RSM expects its applicants to have a certain level of proficiency and drive. Those who plan to earn their bachelor’s degree from a research university outside of the Netherlands must demonstrate their command of and drive for a score on the GMAT that is at least 600 and a Grade Point Average (GPA) in their own nation/university that is above average.

  • English Proficiency:

A candidate must be able to provide proof of proficiency at least at the C1 level (according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, or CEFR) in order to guarantee the necessary minimum level of English fluency. The English test results must be received before the application deadline or before the program fills to capacity, whichever comes first, however you can submit your application first without them.

  • Reservation

RSM Erasmus places a high value on international diversity, thus we carefully track the percentages of students in each master’s program per diploma. The curriculum won’t be balanced if there are too many students with a certain diploma, which will be bad for the idea of an international classroom.

RSM Erasmus typically receives enough applications from students around the world and has only infrequently had to impose restrictions on the intake of applicants based on a particular diploma. If it becomes necessary to limit the number of students holding a certain diploma, it will be done according to the order in which applications are received.

Meeting these admission requirements is essential to be considered for the RSM Erasmus MIM program.
