Eligibility Criteria for Tilburg University Master's in Finance

1. Educational background

You must have a solid academic foundation in the following areas to qualify for the Master’s in Finance:

  • Mathematics and Statistics (24 ECTS)
  • Economics, including Microeconomics (18 ECTS)
  • Accounting (12 ECTS)
  • Finance (12 ECTS)
  • Academic training (24 ECTS)
    Academic training means courses / experience in research skills and an academic way of working. E.g., if you have written a thesis or have done a research project this will count as academic training.

2. English language requirements

You must prove your proficiency in English by submitting the results of one of these tests:

  • Academic IELTS with a minimum overall score of 6.5 and a minimum score of 6.0 on all individual parts of the test.
  • TOEFL iBT with a minimum score of 90 for the traditional TOEFL iBT test at a test center or the TOEFL iBT Paper Edition and a minimum score of 22 for each section. 
  • Cambridge English test results: C1 advanced (formerly CAE) or C2 proficiency (formerly CPE). For both C1 and C2, we accept a score of A, B, or C.

3. GMAT / GRE test

The GMAT or GRE test is a compulsory qualitative admission requirement for this program

  • The required minimum GMAT Overall score for applicants is 550. GRE test scores are also accepted. Scores should be recalculated to comparable GMAT scores via the conversion tool. We accept the results of tests taken at a test center, as well as the online GRE General Test and the GMAT Online exam which you can take at home. 
  • The GMAT institutional code for Tilburg University is VMV-LT-02. The GRE institution code for Tilburg University is 0730.

  2. Diploma(s)
    Your Bachelor’s (and Master’s) diploma(s), if you already have them.
    • If you have not yet completed your higher education study program, you should upload a provisional transcript with your grades up to this point (see 2). Once conditionally admitted, you must send a certified hard copy of your diploma to us, according to the details in your conditional Admission Statement.
    • If you already have completed your higher education study program but have not yet received your diploma, you can provide us with a Graduation Statement from your university that states you have completed all graduation requirements for your study program and the date the diploma will be awarded. Such a statement must have an original seal/stamp and signature.
  3. Transcript of Records
    This is a list from your University of the courses you have taken in your Bachelor’s (and Master’s) degree, with the grades you have achieved.  This must be an official list from your University, not your results downloaded from the University’s student system. If you have not yet completed all courses at the time of application, please provide the Transcript plus a list of the courses you still need to complete before graduation. You can make a list of courses you still need to complete yourself if they are not mentioned in your Transcript of records. Please upload this document together with your transcript or under additional documents.
  4. Official translations of the Transcript of Records and diploma(s)
    If your Transcript of Records and diploma are not in English or Dutch, a certified translator must translate the documents (with the exception of the course description). The translator must attach the translation to copies of the original document and stamp both documents. Please note: we cannot accept translations that are not attached to a copy of the original document; the translator must make sure that s/he stamps the copy of the original document and attaches the two documents to each other.
  5. Course List

    A brief description of taken and passed courses as part of your previous degree(s), which are relevant to the program for which you are applying. Please use the MSc Finance Course List template which should include the following information per course:

    • Course name
    • Course code
    • Number of credits
    • Course description (content, covered topics)
  6. English language test results (unless you are exempted).
    You can check the requirements above under the heading ‘English language requirements‘. Please note that it is obligatory to have obtained the required English language test results before submitting your application.
  7. GMAT test results
    You can check the requirements above under the heading ‘GMAT test’. Please note that it is not obligatory to have completed the GMAT test before application. In our online application system you can indicate the approximate test date.

The Master’s in Finance program is a one-year program that consists of four units. The first three units focus on coursework, while the fourth unit is dedicated to the master’s thesis.
