Stockholm MIF Interview Questions – 1
The interview was a mix of technical and behavioral questions, with a strong focus on discussing my resume. Here are some of the questions I encountered:
- Why have you chosen to pursue a Master in Finance? Your background is in high-tech; how did you become interested in finance?
- What are your post-graduation plans? A generic answer like “I want to work in the finance industry” is not sufficient. Specifics are better. Research the departments within your target companies and be ready to discuss the position you’re aiming for.
- Tell me about your long-term plans. Be prepared to defend your position even if the interviewer challenges it.
- Technical finance questions: Explain derivatives, options, value at risk, and proprietary trading. Don’t make things up – if you don’t know the answer, admit it and express your eagerness to learn.
- How do you intend to leverage your current background in your future finance career?
- Why are you applying to SSE in Sweden, given that you’re in the US? Have you considered finance programs in the US? This question is a test of whether you know what you want. Be clear about your career aspirations.
The interview extended to 1 hour and 15 minutes, even though the initial time allocation was 45 minutes. The interviewer answered many of my questions, and I found that the off-the-record answers were often more informative and valuable.
