I had the opportunity to participate in two interviews with GEM alumni, one over the phone and the other via Skype. The phone interview was conducted by a GEM alumnus from 2011. The Skype interview followed the general format provided in the interview guidelines. Here are some of the main questions:
- Can you please provide a brief overview of your educational background, work experience, and general profile?
- What motivated you to pursue a career in finance, and why do you think it’s essential at this time?
- What were the key factors that led you to select GEM for your business school education?
- As part of the interview, I was asked to identify one of my strengths and one area where I need improvement to assess my self-awareness.
- Given your professional experience in the oil and gas industry, I was questioned about the current focus of major oil companies on technological advancements and innovations.
The interview had a somewhat formal tone and was conducted within a limited time frame, which sometimes made it feel less conversational.
