The MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program at AUB aims to prepare young people to be change agents in their communities, countries, and regions and targets students who are academically promising, financially disadvantaged, and show a commitment to community give-back. It offers students full tuition support, a monthly stipend, medical insurance, housing, books, and laptop, in addition to travel and flights for students from sub-Saharan Africa, Palestinian and Syrian refugees and needy Lebanese.
The program requires scholars to attend a series of workshops, courses, and fieldwork in addition to the courses for their degree. Scholarships will be open for all the master’s degrees offered at AUB. Only full-time students are eligible for this scholarship. Accepted students whose English language proficiency does not meet AUB requirements might require one or two additional semesters to complete the degree (for a total of 2.5 years). Expenses for the additional semester will be covered by the program.
The Tomorrow’s Leaders Scholarship Program, funded by the U.S. Department of State U.S.-Middle East Partnership initiative (MEPI), is for capable and highly motivated high school seniors in the Middle East and North Africa who are from underserved backgrounds. The program will provide four-year university scholarships and internship opportunities at select institutions of higher learning in the Middle East to students who have the potential to become leaders.
Eligible students include men and women who represent the region’s cultural, religious, and geographic diversity and are from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds, who could otherwise gain admission to, but would be unable to afford, four years of college at an American university in the Middle East.
The primary objective of MEPI’s Tomorrow’s Leaders scholarship program is to build a cadre of university-age leaders who are civic-minded, intellectually able, and professionally skilled, who will become the community, business, and national leaders of the future. The program intends to nurture leadership skills and the spirit of civic engagement and volunteerism among outstanding university-age students. The MEPI-TL Scholarship Program has been offering between 18 and 25 scholarships per year, for applicants from eligible countries (these have recently included: Algeria, Bahrain, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Syria, Tunisia, West Bank and Gaza, and Yemen).
Application to the scholarship is announced and managed through AMIDEAST (please see relevant link below). Scholarship recipients may pursue an eligible undergraduate degree in a selected major field of study at AUB, in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences (FAS), Olayan School of Business (OSB), the Faculty of Agriculture and Food Sciences (FAFS), and the Hariri School of Nursing (HSON). Please note that the list of eligible countries and major fields of study may vary from one cycle of application to another.
In addition to their studies, and maintaining an overall GPA of 3.0, recipients will be expected to engage in community service activities, attend the required leadership and career oriented workshops, and participate in internships. Limited English-language training will be provided for some participants. Scholarship recipients may also have the opportunity of a study abroad semester in the U.S.
Participation in the program includes coverage of: related tuition and university fees, health insurance plan, annual travel (from-to home country), books, a laptop, housing, and a monthly allowance during the academic year.
