Introduction to EPM at Manchester

The MSc in Engineering Project Management prepares students for a professional role in the management of engineering projects by providing students with an understanding of both the people-related and technical requirements necessary for the successful management of engineering projects, as well as the organisational and strategic aspects. The programme also stresses the processes that are used to produce, process and service engineering-based innovation projects from idea through relevant analyses to launch, relate innovation to improvements in products, processes and competitive advantage and explain how intellectual property is protected and exploited.

This MSc is one of four MSc courses within the Management of Projects Group of Programmes. The other MSc courses are: Management of Projects, Commercial Project Management and Construction Project Management.

The Department of Mechanical, Aerospace and Civil Engineering has a long history of delivering project management related masters courses and the staff who deliver the programme are drawn for a wide variety of backgrounds and industrial experience.

The MSc Engineering Project Management Programme acquaints students with the basic processes of project management but focuses more specifically on the application of these in an engineering and innovation context. Practical skills in engineering-based innovation projects and protection and exploitation of intellectual property are developed. Successful graduates of this programme find employment in a wide range of organisations such as High Speed Two (HS2) Ltd, Nissan Technical Center South East Asia, Worley Parsons India, Saudi Aramco.

The MSc in Engineering Project Management is listed by the Joint Board of Moderators (JBM) as being Approved Further Learning Schemes for Chartered Engineer. The JBM represents the Institution of Civil Engineers, the Institution of Structural Engineers, the Institution of Highways and Transportation and the Institute of Highway Incorporated Engineers. This means that successful completion of the MSc will enable applicants with an accredited first degree at BEng level to become chartered engineers.

Eligibility Criteria for EPM at Manchester

We require the following documents before we can consider your application:

  • Official Bachelor’s degree transcripts, including official translations and original language copies if the study is not undertaken in English. 2+2 and 3+1 applicants must provide official transcripts and certificates from both institutions.
  • An official document from your university verifying your current weighted average mark (not arithmetic average) if this information is not included in your transcript of study.  Please note: where grades are given as a percentage, the weighted average mark must also be recorded as a percentage, not as a GPA grade. 
  • Degree certificate if you have already graduated.
  • If still studying, please provide an official list of all the modules you are taking in your final year.
  • A CV if you graduated more than three years ago.

 References and personal statements are not required for your application for this programme.

If English is not your first language, we also require proof of your English language ability. If you have already taken an English language qualification, please include your certificate with your application. We may be willing to consider your application without this document, but if we choose to make you an offer, the conditions will include IELTS (or equivalent qualification).

You must submit all these supporting documents with your application. If any of the above information is missing, we will not be able to consider your application and it will be rolled forward to the next stage or withdrawn.

Please only apply for one of the following courses: MSc Construction Project Management, MSc Engineering Project Management, MSc Management of Projects, and MSc Commercial Project Management. If you wish to transfer your application or offer we can review this, please check the suitable backgrounds and entry requirements for each course as we will not automatically consider you for another stream in the Management of Projects.

f we make you an offer, you will have 6 weeks in which to accept. Offers that are not accepted within the 6 week period will be withdrawn so that an offer can be made to another candidate in the next application stage. Please only apply for one of our Management of Project MSc courses.

Start writing at least 1 month in advance of their 1st deadline. First application usually takes the longest.

Interview Prep

1 week

School will notify you and give you roughly 1 week to schedule your interview. Ideally, start your prep ASAP and Do some mock interviews.
