Introduction to IEM at TU Berlin

In the Industrial Engineering and Management master’s degree program, you further advance the knowledge and skills you acquired in the bachelor’s program of the same name. You will expand your technical skills in designing, planning, and operating socio-technical systems, critically reflect on content and methods in industrial engineering and management, and pursue research-oriented work. The master’s program offers specializations in logistics and health technology in addition to those offered in the Industrial Engineering and Management bachelor’s program – civil engineering, chemistry and process engineering, electrical engineering, energy and resources, information and communication systems, mechanical engineering, and transportation engineering.

You have a large degree of freedom when selecting electives, allowing you to develop your own individual profile. TU Berlin’s close contact with industry and leading research institutions, such as the German Institute for Economic Research, ensures that the curriculum remains relevant to current topics. Through university support, such as from the TU Berlin Centre for Entrepreneurship, students are also sensitized to the topic of self-employment.

At TU Berlin you receive an education that is both exceptionally broad while also detailed at an advanced level. This education is based on TU Berlin’s excellent offerings in engineering, information technology, and economics. All of our faculties contribute to the degree program, resulting in highly interdisciplinary training. A crucial element of the concept for this degree program is that the curriculum content for the economics, social science, and engineering disciplines is primarily taken from the offerings for students in those respective degree programs, thus requiring Industrial Engineering and Management students to satisfy the same requirements and demands. This allows graduates of this degree program to hold their own with both engineers and economists.

Building on the fundamentals studied in the bachelor’s degree program, master’s students in this program learn to independently investigate research questions and present and defend their results in an appropriate format. You will learn to conduct scientific work independently and will also acquire important qualities such as creativity, the faculty of abstraction and the ability to order your thinking.
