Typical Interview Method:

In addition to academic aptitude, interviewers consider factors including drive, personality, and alignment with the institution’s values.
Interview panels adhere to predetermined standards of consistency and impartiality. It may take into account leadership, problem-solving, extracurricular activities, and academics. A candidate’s ability to work with others, think critically, and solve problems under pressure may be assessed during an interview using case studies, practical exercises, or group discussions.

Here are the five most important interview tips to help you succeed:

Auckland MeM Interview Experience-1
I had my interview for the Auckland MeM Program on October 14, 2022. The interview lasted for around 40 minutes, and the questions were those that had already been posted in debriefs. These are the questions that were asked to me:
Format: Skype interview
Time Frame: 25-40 minutes
Panel: 2-3 members in the panel, it can range from professors to alumni to ad com members.
1 . Why did you decide to enrol in the University of Auckland’s Masters in Engineering Management programme?
2. Could you give a summary of your training and experience in engineering or a similar field?
3. What would you say about your abilities in teamwork and communication?
4. What particular attributes should an engineering manager have, in your opinion?
5. What are your long- and short-term professional objectives in the engineering management field?
6. Could you describe an instance where you had to adjust to alterations in your workplace or educational setting?
Auckland MeM Interview Experience-2
“My interview for the Auckland MeM Programme took place on March 15, 2022. The interview lasted for approximately forty-five minutes. It was a Zoom interview that was simple to conduct.
These questions were asked:
1. What about the University of Auckland’s Masters in Engineering Management programme most appeals to you?
2. Give an account of a project you worked on or an engineering-related experience you had.
3. In your career or studies, how do you solve problems?
4. Could you describe an instance in which you had to manage a group of people or work well with them on a project?
5. Which moral principles and values do you consider crucial for engineering management?
6. Are you thinking about specialising in any particular field within engineering management?
The interview was conducted without incident. His concluding remarks were quite uplifting. I wish everyone the best”

The Ultimate Decision: Selected after an Interview
“I just concluded my interview about half an hour ago, and I think it went extremely well. Crystal, a lovely lady, was the one who interviewed me.
1. How can multidisciplinary knowledge help you in this programme, and why is it necessary for success in engineering management?
2. Tell about a situation where you had to manage a group of people or work well with a varied group. What obstacles did you face, and how did you get past them?
3. How do you make decisions when under time constraints or with little information?
4. Describe a scenario in which you had to explain intricate technical details to stakeholders who weren’t technical. How did you make it clear and easy to read?
5. In what way do you intend to support the Masters in Engineering Management program’s innovative and creative culture?

Auckland MeM Interview Experience-4
“My interview for the Auckland MeM Programme took place on March 19, 2021. Due to the unavailability of the school portal for a few days, it took me three attempts to schedule an interview with the admissions committee. The following issues come to mind, not necessarily in this order:
1. Give an example of a project where improved engineering was achieved through ingenuity and imagination. In this, what part did you play?
2. How would you handle leading or inspiring a group of people at a challenging stage of a project?
3. Could you tell us about a situation where you had to bargain with stakeholders to decide on the course of a project?
4. Tell us about your experience managing a project that encountered major challenges. How did you get through them?
5. What is the most important lesson you have ever learnt from a mistake or failure in your career?

“My interview took place for around 30 mins and included various personal and behavioural questions. These are the ones I can remember”
1. What circumstances best highlight your leadership abilities, and how would you characterise your style of leadership?
2. Could you give an example of a project where moral issues were a major factor in the choices made? What was your approach?
3. In your opinion, what is the most crucial attribute or ability that an engineering manager should have, and how have you cultivated it?
4. Tell about a personal victory that demonstrates your capacity to succeed under trying circumstances.
5. During your studies, how do you see yourself contributing to the engineering management community at the University of Auckland?
