Eligibility Criteria for MBA at HKU
Applicants should fulfil the following admission requirements:
- A recognised bachelor’s degree.
- Satisfactory GMAT/GRE score.
- Minimum TOEFL score of 550 (paper-based)/80 (internet-based) or IELTS (academic module) overall band score of 6.5, with no subtest score lower than 5.5.
- At least 2 years of postgraduate full-time work experience (as of August 2024).

- Nature – Merit-based. All applicants get an equal opportunity to be considered for the scholarship, regardless of their nationality, profession, gender, or age.
- Application procedure – Once the admission application is submitted, it will be automatically considered. No separate application is required.
- Criteria — The Scholarship Committee takes a holistic approach in making the decision, including admission interview performance, career background, GMAT/GRE score and academic qualification.
- Amount – Scholarship offers to applicants range from HK$150,000 to HK$350,000 based on the criteria above. Full scholarships are available and will be granted to outstanding candidates.

FAQs About MBA at HKU
What factors are considered in the admissions decision?
HKU makes an overall assessment of the candidates’ degree honors/GPA, work experience, GMAT/GRE score, referees’ recommendations, personal statement and interview performance.
How much work experience is required to qualify for admissions?
The normal cut-off is two years of postgraduate full-time work experience.
No industry is favoured over another. Experience in both the private and public sectors is considered relevant.
After submitting the application, what is the next step?
Interviews for shortlisted candidates are by invitation only, which is sent to the email address provided in the application. Local candidates are interviewed in person and international candidates either by phone or video/skype. An additional interview or further documentation may be required in some cases.
After conducting the interview, when will I receive a decision?
Admission decisions are generally available two to four weeks after the interviews. These decisions are communicated via email once all outstanding supporting documents have been received.
I have been self-employed / running a family business since graduating with a bachelor’s degree. Will my application be considered?
Yes, if you can provide proof that you have been doing so for at least 2 years.
