Eligibility Criteria for Illinois Liautaud School Business Analytics

Admission Requirements

Applicants are considered on an individual basis. In addition to the Graduate College minimum requirements, applicants must meet the following program requirements:

  • Baccalaureate Field Individuals from all baccalaureate fields are encouraged to apply. 
  • Grade Point Average At least 3.00/4.00 for the final 60 semester hours (90 quarter hours) of undergraduate studies. Applicants with a master’s degree must have maintained a GPA of at least 3.00/4.00 in that program.

Degree Requirements

In addition to the Graduate College minimum requirements, students must meet the following program requirements:

  • Minimum Semester Hours Required 32.
  • Course Work No more than two 400-level courses may be used to count toward degree requirements.
  • Students entering the program with sufficient background in any of the required core courses may, with the approval of the director of graduate studies, take an advanced analytics elective in its place.

    • UIC and UIUC students or alumni (graduated within five years of applying) with a cumulative GPA of 3.00/4.00 and a GPA of 3.00/4.00 in selected IDS-related courses will be waived from the GMAT or GRE requirement.
  • Minimum English Competency Test Score
    • TOEFL 80, with subscores of Reading 19, Listening 17, Speaking 20, and Writing 21 (iBT Test); 60, with subscores of Reading 19, Listening 17, Writing 21 (revised Paper-Delivered Test), OR,
    • IELTS 6.5, with subscores of 6.0 for all four subscores, OR,
    • PTE-Academic 54, with subscores of Reading 51, Listening 47, Speaking 53, and Writing 56.

Gies College of Business offers a limited number of merit and need-based scholarships for qualified students. All students who plan on enrolling for fall terms are eligible to apply. Recipients will be selected based on need, academic standing, and essay submissions. To apply, follow the essay instructions found on the admissions page. Gies+ Scholarship

Students who are currently earning a master’s degree at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign outside of Gies College of Business can receive a second graduate degree from Gies Business in conjunction with their primary degree. In as little as nine months, you can combine your passion for academic disciplines like engineering, human resources, law, advertising, architecture, healthcare, and social work with your interest in business.

The Master of Science in Business Analytics Program trains students to work in data-rich environments. It enables students to solve real business problems through organization, analysis, and interpretation of data. 

The MS Business Analytics program offered by the Liautaud School of Business is a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) course.

The MS Business Analytics Program admits students in both the fall and spring semesters. Students may choose to enter in the summer semester to take prerequisite courses, including programming, database and business prerequisites. Students seeking summer admission are encouraged to apply early.

Students from a variety of backgrounds (including tech and business) enroll for the MSBA Program. Through coursework, students develop the technical and business skills required to successfully complete the program. We assess candidates to provide each individual with prerequisite courses based on their background and work experience.
