What is a good GMAT score for MiM at ESSEC?
Short Answer – The average GMAT score at MiM at ESSEC is 660 for the last entering class. If you score above 660, you have a fair shot and you will receive an encouraging response to your profile evaluation from the admission committee.
Long Answer – There is no such thing as a safe score, higher is always better. In our years of consulting experience, we have seen our clients with 640 getting selected into top schools like INSEAD and on the other hand, someone with a 770 getting rejected too. A good benchmark that we advise all our clients to beat is the average GMAT score of the last entering class as mentioned in the Class profile published every year. Scoring above the average gets you a fair shot;
“The higher your score, the better is it for your interview or admission chance.”
If you plan to apply with a score that is below the average, then you are starting a fight with one hand tied behind your back or, let’s say, you are starting a few yards behind your competitors. You can definitely catch up in other sections of the application by writing outstanding essays or performing really well in an interview later. But it is always nice to start ahead of the competitor. A higher GMAT score helps one gain a competitive advantage.
“What if you are from the over represented Indian or Asian Pool?”
The over-represented candidate pool of Indian or Chinese applicants usually goes through a rigorous preparation process for GMAT, with a lot of Indian applicants scoring quite high. Hence, the overall competition and the Average score for this diaspora goes up by a few notches. That is why we recommend candidates within the most over-represented profiles to shoot at least 20 points higher than the school’s class profile average.

FAQs about MiF at ESCP
How important is the GMAT score for ESSEC MIM?
The GMAT is part of your application, however ESSEC takes your whole profile into consideration. If you are very good in one area it might compensate for a weakness in another area. Therefore, a good GMAT Score might be an advantage but no guarantee to get into the program as well as a less-than-perfect GMAT score is no knock-out criterium. In any case you should aim for as high a GMAT score as you can possibly achieve
Can each student really design his/her programme at ESSEC MIM? Are there prerequisites/mandatory courses?
Each student has to pass 9 mandatory courses covering the fundamentals of management. You can however choose to take these all together in an intensive time period or spread these out over the duration of the programme. Note however that core courses are sometimes mandatory to do certain advanced classes. Then you must complete a minimum 16 other courses from a choice of 200 electives (8 departments, 20 specialised tracks, 20 Chairs, etc.). It really is flexible; no 2 trimesters are the same! You now also have the opportunity to “build your own course BYOC” where professors working on certain research areas will ask students to participate in co-creating a new course
Where do most ESSEC MIM students live?
Most ESSEC MIM students choose to live in the school’s residence halls, some located within walking distance of the school with sufficient public transportation available. Students are also free to find their own housing near campus or in Paris, or to make arrangements with a roommate.
What is an apprenticeship at ESSEC MIM?
An apprenticeship is a work-study program where you study at ESSEC as well as work at a company at the same time. It is done in different ‘rhythms’ – some people do it on a weekly basis – work for 3 days and study at ESSEC for 2 days per week, some do it on a quarterly basis – work-study for 3 months, some do it in 6 month cycles etc.
The company you work for pays off your tuition fee (except a small portion, association fees, social security, enrolment fee, etc.) irrespective of when you get it. If you get it even after you have paid your full fee, it will be reimbursed as mentioned above. The company also pays you a salary each month for 24 months, irrespective of if you are at ESSEC or at the company.
