My academic interests have always centered around understanding the dynamics of business growth and development, particularly within the context of technology-driven industries. With a Bachelor of Business Administration from Symbiosis International University, I have a solid foundation in business principles, which I have further enriched through practical experience in business development and corporate relations roles. My fascination with how businesses evolve and adapt in a rapidly changing global market has driven me to pursue an MBA at the University of Edinburgh, a program renowned for its emphasis on innovation, strategic thinking, and global business perspectives.
The primary purpose of undertaking this postgraduate study is to equip myself with advanced management skills and strategic insights necessary to excel in leadership roles. My objective is to transition from operational roles into strategic management positions within technology-focused companies, eventually aiming for a Chief Strategy Officer role. The Edinburgh MBA’s comprehensive curriculum, which includes courses on strategic leadership, financial management, and innovation, aligns perfectly with my career aspirations and will provide me with the theoretical and practical knowledge required to navigate complex business environments.
My professional journey thus far has been marked by a series of strategic initiatives that have significantly impacted organizational performance. At Urban Company, I led the implementation of a new supply operating model that improved partner performance metrics by 10% and enhanced service delivery efficiency. Similarly, at Masters’ Union, I spearheaded efforts to increase corporate connections by 30% within three months, demonstrating my ability to drive growth and foster strategic partnerships. These experiences have underscored the importance of strategic planning, data-driven decision-making, and effective leadership—skills that I aim to hone further through the Edinburgh MBA program.
Motivation for this postgraduate study also stems from my commitment to sustainability and ethical business practices. Volunteering with Teach For India and AIESEC has provided me with a deeper understanding of social responsibility and the impact businesses can have on communities. The University of Edinburgh’s strong focus on sustainability and responsible leadership resonates with my personal values and professional goals. I am particularly interested in engaging with the university’s initiatives on sustainability in business, as I believe that integrating ethical considerations into strategic decisions is crucial for long-term success and societal impact.
Moreover, the diverse and international cohort at the University of Edinburgh will offer a rich exchange of ideas and perspectives, enhancing my ability to lead in a global context. 1. Please give a short statement that describes your academic interests, purpose, objectives and motivation in undertaking this postgraduate study. (max 3500 chars – approx. 500 words)
I have over 5 years of experience at Amazon and Jindal Steel, excelling in program management roles in the tech and manufacturing sectors. In these roles, I’ve led teams ranging from 5 to 30 members, delivering projects for international marketplaces across China, Japan, and Germany. My responsibilities involved solving complex customer problems using data analytics and collaborating closely with technical teams.
My journey has been quite unconventional. Everyone’s story starts somewhere, and mine began when my father left us. My mother, siblings and I were plunged into abject poverty, having to rely on government assistance programs designed for families living below the poverty line. With an annual household income of just $365 back then, we lived on less than $1 per day.
With free education, I managed to complete high school. But the assistance stopped after that, forcing me to take up construction labor jobs for 2 years to support my family’s basic needs. My dream of higher studies was put on hold as ensuring my younger siblings’ education became my life’s priority during those tough times.
It was a chance encounter with a decorated police officer mentoring underprivileged youth that reshaped my life’s trajectory. Inspired by him, I found the courage and means to restart my education via scholarships. After construction labor during the day, I would study deep into the night. Within 6 months, my perseverance paid off as I secured admission with a full scholarship to pursue Japanese language studies.
Post-graduation, I joined a steel manufacturer as a Japanese language consultant, finally able to take my family off government aid. This opening exposed me to the corporate world, fueling my ambition further. I then joined Amazon, rapidly rising to a team lead role managing 30 associates by consistently delivering results through data-driven problem-solving.
Now, I am keen to pursue an MBA to bridge the gaps in my business education. The rigorous curriculum covering data analytics, leadership, strategy and operations aligns with my goal of transitioning into a product management role at top tech firms. An MBA will provide me the holistic business foundation to drive innovation and create outsized impact.
More importantly, this prestigious degree also represents the realization of a long-cherished dream – to lift myself and my family out of the vicious cycle of poverty through personal accomplishments. My underprivileged background has only strengthened my resolve to never give up in the face of adversity. Just like my benefactor and mentor once showed me the path, I hope to inspire countless others from similar backgrounds through my journey.
