Can a LOR make or break my MBA application?

A recommendation letter can either make or break your application.

Here’s what you need to keep in mind: #

  • A Window into Your Potential: LORs offer a crucial third-party perspective on your skills, achievements, and work ethic; this can be especially valuable compared to the self-reported information you provide in your application
  • Verifying Your Strengths: A strong letter from a respected recommender can validate your claims about your leadership abilities, problem-solving skills, or contributions to a project, adding credibility to your application.
  • Filling the Gaps: Your LORs can provide context and details that your essays or resume might not capture. They can showcase specific examples that illustrate your capabilities and potential for success in the MBA program

However, a weak letter can also hurt your chances: #

  • Generic Recommendations: LORs with generic praise or lacking specific details won’t impress the admissions committee.
  • Negative Evaluations: In rare cases, a negative letter could significantly harm your application. Choosing recommenders who will write a positive and supportive letter is crucial.
