Statement of Purpose
I have more than 5 years of experience in leading and managing my family business – a jeans and apparel manufacturing company. Due to my father’s demise, I had to take over the business at the age of 25 and today, I manage a team of 70-100 employees and look after day to day operations. Now I want to pursue my MBA primarily because of the 2 reasons:
First, I took over a business which has been following the same operations technique which was introduced by my grandfather. But compared to today’s standard, most of our technology and operations procedures are outdated. Also because of Covid-19, we had to take some losses due to poor supply chain planning. Therefore, to keep up with changing market dynamics, I want to learn and bring some technological changes and operational efficiency in our business.
Second, as a jeans manufacturer, my business’s growth opportunities and the risk are tied to one item. In particular, it has been impacted by advances in E-commerce, and digital marketing. Our market position as well as our financial security is linked to only the Indian market. Now I want to expand my horizons beyond a single product manufacturing into multiple products and adopt direct to consumer selling methodologies to reduce our risks, improve margins and grow internationally.
As an engineering graduate, when I joined my business I was excited to learn under the guidance of my father but due to his untimely death I never received any mentoring to lead a business. I believe now is the right time for me to step out and pursue an MBA to upskill myself. As the next generation leader, I am seeking business education and mentoring to develop my own skills so that I can lead my business to new horizons and make my father proud.
I have seen how fast business practices have changed during Covid times and due to these changing times this is where I believe pursuing a full time MBA from John Molson School of Business can provide the right platform to fill in the gaps in my business knowledge, develop my leadership skills and a great network.
An MBA from John Molson School of business will be a perfect fit because courses like Strategic Managerial Accounting and Control can help learn about optimizing and streamlining my own manufacturing operations. I also heard great things about the Business Process management course which I believe can help develop a long term strategic growth roadmap for my business to grow internationally. Other aspects of the curriculum like experiential learning can help me gain experience outside the classroom and help me apply that knowledge in the classroom in a risk free environment.
Post-MBA, I intend to return to India and lead my company Aman apparels. I want to apply the knowledge I learned through my MBA and upscale my fathers company in the Indian market. In the long term, I aspire to grow my family’s manufacturing business to international markets.

Statement of Purpose
- Why have you chosen to apply to Concordia MBA program?
I am applying to the Concordia MBA program because it aligns perfectly with my career aspirations and personal growth goals. As a software engineer with experience at LinkedIn and Microsoft, I’ve developed a strong technical foundation. However, to transition into a product management role and eventually become an entrepreneur, I need to broaden my understanding of business strategies, finance, and leadership.
Concordia’s program offers a comprehensive curriculum that will fill these knowledge gaps. The courses in strategic management and entrepreneurship particularly interest me, as they directly relate to my long-term goals. Additionally, Concordia’s emphasis on practical, hands-on learning through case studies and group projects appeals to my problem-solving nature.
The diverse student body at Concordia is another significant draw. Having led international hiring initiatives at LinkedIn, I value the opportunity to collaborate with peers from various backgrounds and industries. This exposure will enhance my cross-cultural competence, a crucial skill in today’s global business environment.
Lastly, Concordia’s strong connections to Montreal’s vibrant business community offer excellent networking opportunities. These connections will be invaluable as I seek to apply my newfound knowledge in real-world settings and advance my career post-MBA.
- What are your career goals?
My immediate post-MBA goal is to transition into a product management role, preferably in a company leveraging AI technologies. My experience as a software engineer at LinkedIn, where I’ve been implementing AI solutions to enhance job matching, has sparked my interest in leading AI-driven products that can make significant impacts.
In the short term, I aim to use my technical background and newly acquired business acumen to effectively bridge the gap between technical teams and business stakeholders. I want to drive product strategy, oversee development cycles, and ensure that the products we create truly meet user needs and business objectives.
Long-term, I aspire to become an entrepreneur and launch my own tech startup. I believe AI will revolutionize how businesses operate, much like the internet did. I want to be at the forefront of this change, creating innovative solutions that address real-world problems.
To achieve these goals, I need to expand my knowledge beyond technology into areas like finance, marketing, and strategic management. The Concordia MBA program will provide me with this comprehensive business foundation, equipping me with the skills to not only excel as a product manager but also to eventually lead my own company in the dynamic tech industry.
- Briefly highlight your strengths that you would bring to the program AND your weakness(es) that you would want to improve upon in the MBA program.
My primary strength is my technical expertise in software engineering, honed through my experiences at LinkedIn and Microsoft. This background allows me to understand complex technological concepts and translate them into practical business solutions. I’ve demonstrated this skill by leading projects to integrate AI into LinkedIn’s products, improving job-matching effectiveness.
Another strength is my leadership ability. At LinkedIn, I’ve led international hiring initiatives, managing diverse teams across multiple time zones. This experience has sharpened my skills in cross-cultural communication and adaptability, which I believe will greatly contribute to collaborative projects in the MBA program.
My commitment to social responsibility is also a strength. My volunteer work with the American Cancer Society, where I’ve helped increase monthly contributions by 30%, showcases my ability to drive meaningful change beyond the workplace.
However, I recognize that I have areas for improvement. My primary weakness is my limited formal business knowledge, particularly in finance and marketing. While I excel in technical aspects, I need to develop a more comprehensive understanding of business strategies and market dynamics to achieve my goal of becoming a product manager and eventual entrepreneur.
Additionally, I aim to enhance my public speaking and presentation skills. As a future product manager and business leader, I’ll need to effectively communicate complex ideas to diverse audiences. The Concordia MBA program’s emphasis on group presentations and case studies will provide valuable opportunities to improve in this area.
